Borneo is legendary as a precious habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. A good proportion of this natural bounty is, however, under threat due to a multitude of factors ranging from pollution and global warming to the attentions of smugglers. On this journey, the sea turtles that inhabit the waters of the Sulu Sea just off the coast of Sabah are the focus. Guests will travel to stunning Libaran Island, home to the luxury Walai Penyu Resort. The resort has teamed with the Sabah Wildlife Department to establish a turtle conservation program focused on hawksbill and green turtle populations in the Sulu Sea. As well as finding out more about efforts to conserve these endangered species and helping to release baby turtles into the ocean from the resort’s hatchery, guests will have the opportunity to snorkel or kayak around the crystalline waters surrounding the island.
