On 31 May 2025, a meaningful step was taken toward health, sustainability and education in rural Cambodia. In partnership with the EXO Foundation, EXO Travel Cambodia proudly celebrated the installation of a new bio-sand water filter station at Trapeang Thmor Primary School in Svay Ler District, Siem Reap.
Located more than 60 km from Siem Reap town, Trapeang Thmor is home to 257 students and 11 teachers, many of whom previously had limited access to clean drinking water.
‘We would like to help students and teachers in rural areas who don’t have proper clean water to drink, and don’t have enough school supplies.’
–Mrs. Soka Mout, Contracting Manager at EXO Cambodia
The initiative, led by Mrs. Sopanhary Kuch and the EXO Siem Reap office, reflects a broader mission to build more resilient communities through sustainable action. In addition to providing safe drinking water, the event also aimed to educate younger generations on environmental responsibility.
The installation of the bio-sand water filter, made possible through funding from the EXO Foundation, was complemented by the donation of refillable bottles from EXO Travel Cambodia and a generous contribution of school supplies and snacks provided by Vision Cambodia and Mr South Chantha, one of EXO’s valued guides. Additional support came from the Siem Reap team, with staff, guides and drivers contributing essential learning materials, hygiene items, and clothing.
‘Besides offering clean water and school supplies, we want to show these students that a sustainable environment matters. We hope they see how reducing plastic is possible—by using the refill bottles we’ve provided in daily life.’
The event was attended by local students, teachers, village and commune representatives, and district leaders, all of whom offered a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude.
The celebration also included tree planting activities on school grounds, further underlining the connection between sustainability and education. “It was impressive to see the engagement from both the school and the wider community,” noted Mrs Sokha. ‘Many people in the area do not have proper clean water to drink, but the enthusiasm and awareness shared at the event was incredibly encouraging.’
‘Clean water, clear life, bright future. Educate the children today, make the plannet a better place tomorrow.’
-Mrs. Sampohas Srey, Inbound Manager at EXO Cambodia
The EXO Foundation will continue to support similar projects throughout the region, working closely with local communities to address environmental challenges while promoting health, education and long-term impact.
