We believe sustainability is not only the right choice but also enriches guest experiences in meaningful ways. The Travel for Good rating system evaluates and categorises travel experiences based on environmental, social and economic impacts, guiding partners toward responsible choices that benefit both communities and the planet. These experiences are organized into three key categories with ten subcategories in total, all easily searchable in our digital platforms.
Low Carbon- Experiences with walking, trekking, hiking, cycling or public transport
Wildlife Protection- Funds are used to protect areas such as national parks or for observation-only animal encounters by accredited organisations.
Organic Lifestyle- Experiences that include only vegetarian/vegan meals, farm-to-table activities, organic farming, create natural products or wellbeing.
Homestays- Tours and experiences that include activities or nights at carefully-vetted homestays that allow guests to experience cultural immersion
Philanthropy- Experiences that include donations to programmes, organisations or charities included in the tour or that use services from non-profit organisations.
Community Based Tourism- Experiences run by CBT organisations with community funds that help spread out revenue from tourism to the whole community
Off the Beaten Track- Experiences promoting remote areas and less mainstream destinations
Heritage Protection- Experiences that help protect cultural heritage sites, including UNESCO sites or less visited sites, far away from mass tourism
Cultural Diversity- Experiences promoting ethnic groups, minorities, shared know-how and stories
Arts, Food and Creativity- Experiences including cultural shows & performances, visits to galleries, handicrafts workshops & food experiences.
In addition to the work we do to ensure that guests’ travels have the biggest positive and smallest negative impacts possible in the destinations they visit, we also ensure that guests supplied information that allows them to select responsible hotels and transfers, and supply guides who are trained on how to travel responsibly.

Hotels that we work with are asked to do a self assessment that covers a number of categories looking at socio-economic benefits provided to the local community, communication of topics related to responsible tourism and environmental preservation and more. Each category features a number of detailed questions addressing specific issues which are then scored based on the answer.

In addition to the self-assessment, Sustainability Coordinators also visit the property to confirm the checklist is accurate and to inspect additional aspects of the hotel ranging from its shops, restaurants and rooms to reception, housekeeping and waste management.

Each assessment is tallied and, based on the results, properties are rewarded with either one, two or three star ratings depending on how effective and beneficial the property’s sustainable practices are. In particular, the following criteria play a key role in the award of Eco-Friendly and Socially Aware recognitions.
