Hanoi has some of the healthiest and most delicious street food in the world. Whether it’s soups, noodles, seafood ,there is something for everyone! The EXO Vietnam team shares their favourite dishes- read on to learn more about the specificity of each dish.
BUN CHA
Bun cha is the most famous Hanoi food. It is made with pork that has been slowly cooked in a flavorful broth. Usually served with rice noodles, a basket of fresh herbs, and a portion of ”nem”. If you dare, add them to the broth along with a good amount of chilli!
This dish has a reputation since President Obama came to eat it a few years ago!
BUN CA (FISH NOODLE)
Bun ca is also a mythical dish of Hanoi, indeed this fried fish soup is very tasty and is particularly appreciated by locals.
BANH MI
A must in Hanoi, this sandwich comes in many different ways with : meats, vegetables and sauces and we strongly recommend you to try at least one before leaving Hanoi.
BANH CUON
A bit like a “crepe” asiatique but with rice dough with pork and mushrooms inside and grilled onions on top of it. It is a dish that is often eaten for breakfast but you can find it all over the city at any time of the day.
CA CUON THIT
Translated as “rolled fish meat”, these goodies are filled with fish and have an extra layer of pork who make it tasteful. And as a matter of fact, this dish is not only native to Hanoi, it is also unique to the alley in which it is served, Trung Yen.
PHO (BO OR GA)
We don’t present it to you anymore, this Vietnamese speciality has made its way to the West. This soup is very comforting and is available with new (Bo) or chicken (Ga). Be careful with the pronunciation of “pho”, it’s “fu” and not as it’s written, you’ll avoid saying a word not very correct…
PHO CHIEN PHONG
The ultimate combo for noodle and fried food lovers. This dish consists of noodle fries with pork and fried vegetables, a bit far from healthy but a very comforting dish. You’ll be happy to find it all over the city.
LAU VIETNAMESE HOT POT
This dish is perfect to get together around a friendly kitchen full of good things. Choose from different types of meats, vegetables, side dishes and sauces. A tip is to take an unlimited one, if you are numerous that will reduce the cost and you will be able to enjoy this culinary experience even more.
