EXO takes important step in elevating Human Rights in tourism

EXO joins Roundtable on Human Rights in Tourism initiative

EXO Travel recently joined the Roundtable on Human Rights in Tourism, strengthening our commitment to using travel as a force for good.

The Roundtable on Human Rights in Tourism is a multi-stakeholder initiative that promotes human rights within the tourism sector. The non-profit organisation aims to integrate respect for human rights across the tourism industry in alignment with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Members include a broad range of tourism stakeholders, including private-sector companies such as EXO as well as non-profits, academic institutions and government organisations. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the Roundtable offers a platform for EXO and other members to share best practices and enhance the overall human rights condition with the travel industry.

‘As an organisation, we are deeply committed to learning from others and improving ourselves when it comes to respecting human rights and upholding internationally recognized best practices’ Alexandra Michat, EXO’s Chief Purpose Officer, explains. ‘We find great value and alignment in the objectives set by the Roundtable’.

We embrace our responsibility to ensure that our activities contribute positively to the well-being of host communities and respect the fundamental rights of their inhabitants’.

Since its founding in 2012, The Roundtable on Human Rights in Tourism has provided resources, expertise and support to companies and organisations to implement human rights due diligence throughout their operations.

The impact of the Roundtable is significant in setting standards and guidelines for human rights in tourism. They conduct educational events, webinars and symposiums, and offer tools for risk assessment and implementing human rights strategies.

As part of our commitment to being a responsibly and sustainably operated business, EXO has always promoted the respect of human rights and joined the fight against child exploitation in tourism.

Alexandra explains, ‘EXO recognises the profound influence tourism exerts on the socio-economic landscape of destinations, and thus, we embrace our responsibility to ensure that our activities contribute positively to the well-being of host communities and respect the fundamental rights of their inhabitants.’

‘We are eager to collaborate with fellow signatories and stakeholders within the Roundtable to collectively address challenges of human rights in tourism’, Alexandra continues. ‘Through collaboration and concerted action, we firmly believe that we can have a meaningful impact and foster a tourism industry that serves social justice. ‘

Established in 1993, EXO Travel has harnessed in-depth local knowledge and a widely-recognized penchant for authentic, groundbreaking touring to become a leading DMC for the premium travel market.  As a Certified B Corporation, EXO is also demonstrably committed to sustainability and using travel as a force for good.
