EXO Foundation expands its impact with new initiatives

Introducing four new projects supported by the Foundation

As the non-profit arm of EXO Travel, EXO Foundation continues to broaden its impact through a diverse array of projects aimed at building a better future for local communities and travellers alike.

In recent months, four new projects have joined the Foundation’s portfolio, expanding its reach and influence. These projects- located in Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam- are working to address important issues such as environmental conservation, community empowerment and cultural heritage.

‘These new partnerships encompass a wide range of causes,’ says Charlotte Piffard, EXO Foundation Leader. ‘After carefully reviewing each project, we allocated funds to support impactful plans and initiatives that will benefit both the planet and local communities in lasting ways. Additionally, we are collaborating with several Foundation projects to develop visits and tours, aiming to increase awareness of their work and generate new revenue streams to further support these initiatives.’

The Foundation’s mission is made possible by the generosity of its supporters, including travellers, partners and the dedicated EXO Travel team. With a $1 USD donation per traveller, EXO Travel contributes directly to the Foundation’s goals.

Read on to discover more about these projects and EXO Foundation’s work to build a more sustainable, brighter future for all.

Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife (LCTW)

What they do: LCTW is on a mission to end illegal wildlife trade and build conservation capacity in Laos. A large part of their work is focused on animal welfare education, breeding endemic species or rehabilitating native wildlife rescued from poachers.

EXO Foundation support: LCTW recently moved their base to the outskirts of Vientiane, with more space to carry out their vital work.

With over 200 animals needing daily care, the EXO Foundation made a substantial donation to cover operational costs – such as food and veterinarian care- to support the overall well-being of the rescued wildlife.

Reef Check Malaysia (RCM)

What they do: Established in 2007, RCM is dedicated to conserving Malaysia’s marine environments with a focus on coral reef monitoring, education and awareness activities and engaging communities in conservation and waste management. Part of the global Reef Check network, they are actively building local capacity for sustainable marine resource management.

EXO Foundation support: The EXO Foundation and Reef Check Malaysia are implementing a sustainable waste management project on Selakan Island, Tun Sakaran Marine Park. Home to many of our operational suppliers, this community-based initiative includes a central collection centre for separated waste, with scheduled transport to the mainland for disposal, helping to protect the island’s fragile ecosystem from harmful practices like burning and sea dumping.

Rescue P.A.W.S. Thailand

What they do: Rescue P.A.W.S. is a compassionate community-based organisation dedicated to improving the lives of animals across Thailand. More than just a shelter, the organisation provides essential medical care for stray dogs, vital sterilisation missions and educates local communities on humane animal care

EXO Foundation support:  The organisation has been forced to relocate in 2024. Although land has been granted for a new site, it currently lacks any infrastructure or buildings. The EXO Foundation donated funds that will be used to construct offices, dog kennels and a clinic, enabling Rescue PAWS to continue its community engagement and support of animal welfare.

Entrepreneurs du Monde / ACE Institution

What they do: Entrepreneurs du Monde fosters social and economic growth in disadvantaged communities by creating and incubating local programs until they achieve self-sufficiency. Anh Chi Em (ACE), one of these initiatives, is a microfinance institution that provides economic opportunities, mainly in sustainable agriculture and handicrafts such as weaving, for women in Vietnam’s Dien Bien province, reaching over 4,000 beneficiaries across 200 villages in three districts.

EXO Foundation support:  EXO will support ACE by providing technical assistance to develop sustainable tourism activities and implementing a waste management system, helping to create a healthier, more pleasant environment.

EXO Foundation, the non-profit arm of EXO Travel, operates across a growing number of countries, fostering sustainable development through responsible tourism. By supporting local grassroots initiatives, the Foundation aims to drive positive societal and environmental changes, maximising tourism’s potential as a tool for poverty alleviation and promoting good practices across the travel industry.
