Cycling Vietnam’s Heritage Trail: Hue to Nha Trang

EXO Adventure has crisscrossed Vietnam in search of the best biking experiences

EXO Vietnam Adventure Manager, Dzung, takes us along for the ride as she shares stories of her favourite cycling journey

Cycling Vietnam’s Heritage Trail: Hue to Nha Trang is unique because it’s a mixture of everything that Vietnam has to offer.’

‘Guests have the opportunity to visit the heritage sites of Hue and Hoi An, see the stunning scenery, explore villages and relax on the beach. It also has plenty of roads with breathtaking views,’ Dzung explains.

The adventure begins with a scenic coastal ride from the historic town of Hue to Lang Co fishing village, followed the next day by a challenging ride over Hai Van Pass. The hard work is rewarded with incredible views and an exhilarating downhill ride into Hoi An. A two-night stay in Hoi An, another heritage town, is punctuated by a pedal out to the My Son archeological site.

‘We share the cycling route with the local people- they come say hello and give high fives.’

From Hoi An, the journey continues south with a series of beautiful coastal rides on days 5-8.

Along the way guests will visit My Lai for a sobering but insightful visit to the infamous war site, as well as Qui Nhon, a strategic American supply centre during the Vietnam-American war.

There are also many quiet countryside roads along the way, providing guests with ample opportunity to interact with local residents and learn about the ethnic diversity of Vietnam.

‘Often, we share the cycling route with the local people, like students and farmers. They come say hello and give high fives,’ Dzung shares.

‘Riding through rice paddies, a challenging climb and spectacular views

The last day on the bikes is arguably the most memorable, taking guests from the small coastal town of Tuy Hoa to Whale Island.

What makes the ride so special is the variety of landscapes: riding through rice paddies, a challenging climb and spectacular views of the coast.

Dzung recalls cycling this road for the first time in 2016,

I was really struggling on the pass but the guide and other riders encouraged me. When I get to the top and I see the beautiful beach ahead of me I feel very happy. I can look back and say ‘Yes, I can do that’.’

As with all EXO Adventures,  Cycling Vietnam’s Heritage Trail can be adjusted and tailored to fit guests’ personal travel style and fitness level. In addition, each cycling tour is led by our specially-trained guides and a support team. Together, they are able to anticipate guests’ needs and deliver the best service for a memorable cycling holiday.

WHY EXO LOVES IT?

‘This ride is unique because it’s a mixture of everything that Vietnam has to offer.

Guests have the opportunity to visit the heritage sites of Hue and Hoi An, see the stunning scenery, explore villages and relax on the beach.’
