Sabah Wildlife Adventure

EXO Adventure's Rosa shares her love of Borneo on this incredible journey

We talk with Rosa Minggu, EXO Head of Inbound & Adventure- Malaysia & Singapore, about creating this adventure and her favourite highlights along the way.

‘Wildlife and adventure plus amazing accommodation in the jungles and wetlands– this journey is impressive!’, Rosa exclaims.

Exploring on foot, by boat, by jeep and snorkelling, EXO’s 11-day Sabah Wildlife Adventure is purposefully designed to showcase the best of Borneo’s natural wonders.

Rosa is from the neighbouring state of Sarawak and is passionate about Borneo’s nature and wildlife. She explains, ‘‘With this tour we wanted to cover all of Sabah’s highlights with a great mix of experiences.’

As an introduction to Sabah’s rich ecosystems, the trip begins with visits to two important animal conservation projects: Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. These insightful visits are complemented by a canopy walk at the Rainforest Discovery Centre, providing a first look at the raw beauty of Malaysia’s natural flora and fauna.

Then it’s on to the Kinabatangan River and Tabin Wildlife Reserve for a closer look. Through a series of boat trips and nature walks, guests will have the opportunity to spot endemic wildlife- such as elephants, gibbons and proboscis monkeys- in their native habitat. There is also an incredible array of bird species in the area, with more than 200 species in the Tabin area alone.

‘Danum Valley is my favourite highlight. The experience of staying in a beautiful room in the jungle is made even better by the constant jungle sounds’

Diving deeper into the wild, an adventurous overland ride leads to the virgin rainforests of the Danum Valley, for a two-night stay in the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

A series of treks through the 130-million-year-old rainforest reveals mother nature at her very best, with impressive waterfalls and wildlife, including frogs, sambar deer, leopards and more.

Rosa says, ‘Danum Valley is my favourite highlight. The experience of staying in a beautiful room in the jungle is made even better by the constant jungle sounds, great food and the incredible treks. It’s simply the best!’

‘With this tour we wanted to cover all of Sabah’s highlights with a great mix of experiences.’

For the final stop on this adventure, guests bid farewell to the jungle and travel to the city of Kota Kinabalu for one last adventure on neighbouring Gaya Island.

A day on the island includes snorkelling and kayaking at Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, where marine life, mangroves and birds.

A short but exhilarating zipline ride wraps up the day on Gaya Island, before transferring back to Kota Kinabalu.

EXO’s Sabah Wildlife Adventure can be further tailored to fit guests’ preferred duration and adventure level.

We also recommended adding a beach extension, like our Beach Break at Mantanani or Gaya Island Getaway

Why EXO Loves it?

With this tour we wanted to cover all of Sabah’s highlights with a great mix of experiences. Wildlife and adventure plus amazing accommodation in the jungles and wetlands– it’s impressive!’
