Welcome to Vientiane, capital of Laos. It may not seem like it but yes, this tranquil laid back countryside town is the capital of a country. There’s so much to see within and just outside the city. Let’s explore the city and see some of the sites Vientiane has to offer. The flat city and quiet backroads are ideal for pedaling amongst the sites. See Wat Sisaket, and notice it’s Siamese style of architecture, which ironically kept it safe when Laos was sacked by the Thai army in 1827. There are over 2000 ceramic and silver Buddha images here.

Check out Lao’s version of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Although Laotian in design, Patuxai just somehow reminds you of the French structure. Built in the 1950’s, it is dedicated to those who fought for independence (Patuxai literally means Victory Gate).

Another interesting site is Phra That Luang. a large gold covered Buddhist stupa that is considered the city’s and country’s symbol. A lot of history is here, since it is believed that a site existed here since the 3^rd century.  Afterwards, experience a little bit of the city atmosphere with visits to local markets.

From within the city to just outside, set out to explore beautiful Lao wildlife! . Travel to Phou Khao Kway National Park where you will trek through lush jungles past waterfalls and rising peaks that house a diverse population of plants and animals species. Included are bright, beautiful and almost glowing orchids. After an incredible day in the park, transfer to the Ban Pako Ecolodge, which sits on the banks of the Nam Ngum River and is of course surrounded by the gorgeous presence of Lao nature that you just experienced.
