‘The experience of staying in a beautiful room in the jungle is made even better by the constant jungle sounds, great food and the incredible treks’
Danum Valley
The Danum Valley Conservation Area is a sanctuary for an ancient 130-million-year-old lowland rainforest, spanning approximately 438 square kilometres. This reserve is celebrated for its exceptional wildlife encounters, featuring orangutans, elephants, gibbons, and a myriad of bird species. It is also home to some of the tallest trees in the tropics, reaching heights of up to 100 metres.
Danum Valley is a hub for scientific research and conservation efforts, playing a crucial role in understanding Borneo’s rich ecosystem. Visitors can engage in guided jungle treks, canopy walks, and night safaris, offering intimate encounters with the rainforest’s diverse inhabitants. Additionally, the valley’s lush landscapes and pristine environment provide a serene backdrop for exploration and adventure, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts.
Rosa, EXO Malaysia Head of Inbound Sales, has spent extensive time in Sabah. She remarks, ‘Danum Valley is a highlight. The experience of staying in a beautiful room in the jungle is made even better by the constant jungle sounds, great food and the incredible treks.’
‘Tabin’s remote location provides an escape from urban life, allowing you to reconnect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest’.
Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Tabin, Malaysia’s largest wildlife reserve, spans approximately 1,225 square kilometres. Similar to Danum Valley, Tabin features lowland rainforest but also includes expansive grasslands and an active mud volcano.
Renowned for its large mammal populations, including elephants, rhinos, and various deer species, Tabin offers thrilling wildlife encounters in an open savannah setting. The mineral-rich mud volcanoes attract wildlife seeking nutrition, and a special platform allows visitors to observe them from a distance. Birdwatchers will also delight in the reserve’s rich diversity of bird species.
Alvin, EXO Malaysia Product Executive, shares his affinity for Tabin, saying ‘Its remote location provides an escape from urban life, allowing you to reconnect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest’.
He goes on to highlight the evening cruise experience, stating ‘While the wildlife is currently quite shy and not yet accustomed to human presence, the breathtaking sunset views and the clear night sky in the middle of the river, free from light pollution, made for an unforgettable stargazing experience that more than compensated for it’.
