Blue, Green & Brown; the Colors of Nature, the Colors of Kuang Si Falls; This is Nature at its Best

It’s got temples, it’s got culture, the country’s got nature and of course the laid back air. This can only be Laos.

It’s got temples, it’s got culture, the country’s got nature and of course the laid back air. This can only be Laos. And quite surprisingly, it is still one of the less-visited. Could it be because of its low profile nature? Does its gradual opening to the outside world in the late 1980’s and 1990’s contribute to it? Why are we even complaining? If anything, we should embrace the fact that Laos is still somewhat untouched by the outside world. Its culture and heritage remain as authentic as ever, the laidback Laoness continues to thrive and its nature remains as green and pure as ever. Which brings us nicely to Kuang Si Falls.

If you’re going to Kuang Si Falls, you are most likely to come from Luang Prabang. This UNESCO town is the perfect place to capture everything there is to cherish about Laos. The temples are fascinating; have you seen the beautiful gold and black carvings at Wat Xieng Thong, the fascinating relics at Haw Kham, and the traditional temple atmosphere at Wat Sen? These are just the few of many in town. Try exploring this cultural city by electric bike. It is fun, it is eye-opening, it is environmentally friendly; it is a unique experience!

The waterfall, one of Laos’s finest, is just 32 kilometers southwest of town. And the experience starts the moment you leave Luang Prabang; you’ll pass beautiful landscapes of rice fields, hills, and small villages. And yes, we’ll make stops to these villages; it’s one of the ways for you to fully embrace the Lao flavor. There are also viewpoints overlooking the Mekong River along the way, and again, you’re free to stop and take a look.

You’ll reach Kuang Si in no time. And what a site it is. The three tier waterfall, complete with blue shallow pools and a 50 meter cascade (along with many smaller ones) is a sight to behold. It is so tempting! Go on ahead and take a dip.

You’ll also notice the surroundings; green trees, rocks and some tacks. If you’re the hiker, go on ahead and head to the top. Stunning views await you up there. And when it’s lunch time, pick a spot for your picnic and enjoy some authentic Lao tastes!

And that’s not all. Upon returning to Luang Prabang, visit the Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre for insight in to the country’s various ethnic groups and traditional crafts. This is some wowing with knowledge.
