Guide to Malaysian Beaches

Guide to Malaysian Beaches

Malaysia is home to some of the most stunning beaches in Southeast Asia, with a surprising number of coastal escapes.

While the country is famous for its orangutans and jungle offerings, Malaysia’s coast is equally captivating, with serene shores ideal for relaxation and vibrant coral reefs perfect for snorkelling and diving. And thanks to its geography, Malaysia offers sunny beaches to visit throughout the year.

Langkawi

Situated off Malaysia’s northwest coast in the Andaman Sea, Langkawi is a spectacular archipelago of 99 islands. Popular for its pristine beaches, it also boasts the UNESCO-listed Global Geopark, renowned for its extraordinary geological formations and vibrant rainforests teeming with biodiversity. Langkawi offers the perfect blend of serene beach escapes and nature adventures, making it an ideal destination for families or travellers seeking an extended coastal stay.

How to get there and when to visit: Langkawi can be reached by direct flights from major cities in Malaysia or by ferry from the peninsula. The best time to visit is November to April, when the weather is dry and pleasant.

Gaya Island

Just a short distance from Kota Kinabalu, Gaya Island is one of Sabah’s most idyllic escapes. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, this hidden gem is the largest and most luxurious island within Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park.
