Family Treasure Hunts in Asia

There’s no better way to get kids engaged in a destination and its culture than by combining fun and learning in the form of a treasure hunt.  From Angkor Thom in Cambodia to Bagan’s temples in Myanmar, from exploring Balinese culture to Beijing’s Forbidden City, the hand-crafted hunts below promise a family-friendly adventure unlike any other.

Bagan Family Treasure Hunt

Explore the temples of Bagan in a way that’s fun for the whole family, on a family treasure hunt by zippy e-scooter.  Once you’ve mastered the scooter, invite your child to jump on the back – and let the treasure hunt begin! The aim of the game is to work together using a map (downloaded onto your smartphone) and easy GPS coordinates to find the ‘Lost Letters’ that will lead to clues about the whereabouts of the next destination. Combining all the letters will spell out a word to lead you to the final stop, where prizes for all the family will be waiting. There are a total of 12 destinations throughout the treasure hunt, including Bagan’s most famous temples, a riverside garden, local villages and an artist’s workshop. Along the way your guide will explain all about Bagan’s history to make this not only a fun adventure for the children but also a great learning activity.

Angkor Thom Scavenger Hunt – Half Day

Calling all Indiana Jones fans! For a fun, family-focused photography scavenger hunt grab a map, a set of clues and a camera to uncover mysteries within the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the once-mighty Khmer Empire. Set off into the sprawling complex in a quest to capture a dozen unique pictures. During the game, discover interesting facts about sites such as the historic Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King. Explore ancient Bayon Temple and admire the enigmatic faces that cover the temple’s 52 towers. Finish with an exploration of the forested temple complex of Preah Pithu in search of hidden statues, carvings, and chambers!  After collecting all the photos, meet up with the guide. Discuss the answers to the quiz and share the picture clues with the group of participants, receiving a magnificent prize for completing the scavenger hunt successfully.

Bangkok Treasure Hunt and The Golden Mountain – Half Day

Get to know bustling Bangkok in a different way on a treasure hunt through the city’s historical sites and neighbourhoods. After reading a guide booklet on the treasure hunt rules, start the walk through historical sites, from the Golden Mountain to a local community Ban Batra and the neighbourhoods. Follow the first mission, search for mysterious objects, and receive an object for cracking codes to continue on to the next missions. The final mission ends at a local printing house and café to discover who is the winner.

Treasure Hunt Bali

Take a treasure hunt around the hilltop village of Sidemen in East Bali to uncover Balinese culture and traditions.  Amidst a backdrop of beautiful mountains and rice fields, learn about Balinese letters and try writing on palm leaves (a technique called Lontar) before trying to decipher a parchment code.  Witness traditional weaving techniques and learn about the layout of a typical Balinese compound and its symbolism. Take these newfound skills and knowledge on a walk around the village to search for and solve puzzles, and ultimately, be led to a hidden treasure in a sacred temple surrounded by panoramic views of mountains and rice fields. Bring the treasure home as a gift!

Forbidden City Hunt

To explore Beijing’s iconic Forbidden City in a family-friendly way which doesn’t overwhelm, go on a fun-filled hunt which combines learning and excitement.  As the guide explains the site’s history and legends, listen carefully for clues before racing around to seek out special symbols found amid the 9,999 buildings of the compound.  The tour will focus on the three main parts of the Forbidden City. Kids will be presented with an EXO smartphone equipped with WeChat app, and on finding the answers, a photo needs to be sent by phone back to the EXO office.  The EXO team there will be available to assist and encourage the kids.  End this fun-filled game with an award presentation for each participant.
