EXO Travel Laos and Myanmar Travelife Accredited

We are pleased to announce that EXO Travel Laos and Myanmar have both been awarded the coveted Travelife certification. Recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, the Travelife accreditation establishes EXO Myanmar and EXO Laos as Destination Management companies within their respective countries to comply with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria and thus awarded the Travelife certification. EXO Laos is the first DM in Laos to receive this certification. Similarly, EXO Cambodia became the first DM in Cambodia to receive the certification also.

The Travelife accreditation has been a real collective achievement for EXO Travel, who now have 5 accredited destinations; Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, becoming the first Asian Destination Management Company to do so, and be recognised by what is the most comprehensive certification scheme worldwide for tour operators. 

EXO’s Commitment to a Sustainable Tourism Industry 

This award further cements EXO Travel’s and EXO Foundation’s positions as leaders in corporate social responsibility, within the global tour industry.

Together, they continue to uphold their vision of a system of travel that maximizes the benefits of local communities and the preservation of their cultural and natural heritage. Their joint-mission aims to improve the livelihoods of the most disadvantaged populations, while minimizing the negative social, cultural and environmental impacts tourism may generate.

This recent award underlines EXO’s commitment to a sustainable tourism industry following on from the ChildSafe accreditation and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) nomination for CSR. This year, EXO Vietnam also received the CSR Award from the French Chamber of Commerce (CCIF); EXO Cambodia received a CCIF Environment Award and the EXO Group has been nominated for a Virtuoso 2016 award in the category of Sustainable Tourism Leadership.

    Without a decent recycling program, Laos has been struggling to manage its plastic waste. To address this crisis, EXO  Laos will be requesting all clients from 10 November 2023 onwards to travel with a refillable bottle. In order to provide clean and safe water to guests, EXO is equipping all supplied minivans and buses with a Water Refill System. This will ensure guests have access to cool, purified drinking water at all times, whether remaining in or out town.If clients do not have a refill bottle or wish to purchase a new refillable bottle, they are readily available at shops and hotels in Laos.In addition to EXO's refill stations, there are also free refill spots available to the public throughout Luang Prabang.     Recent developments in air and rail networks are improving the Laos travel experience, encouraging longer stays, richer experiences, and a more holistic understanding of the multifaceted beauty that is Laos. High Speed Train: Easier access to remote areas In the past, overland journeys in Laos usually involved an arduous drive over rough mountain roads. The debut of a groundbreaking high-speed train in late 2022 has changed that. With a top speed of 160 km/hour, the new rail line dramatically reduces travel time within the country and makes remote regions more accessible.  The train commences at the southern terminus of Vientiane, the commercial capital, and travels north to the Laos-China border at Boten. Along the way stops are made in Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, Oudomxay and Nateuy. The journey from Vientiane to Luang Prabang takes around 2.5 hours by train, a drastic improvement over the previous 6-7 hour drive.     Summary of Myanmar reopening: Myanmar is technically open for travel. COVID entry regulations have loosened, especially for vaccinated travellers. However, the general political situation in Myanmar remains unstable since the change of government in February 2021. Multiple countries have issued strict travel warnings for Myanmar. In such cases, travel insurance generally does not offer coverage and is invalidated.   Please check the travel advice issued by guests' government; some embassies in Myanmar are not operating or may not have staff able to assist travellers in case a problem occurs in country. Please details regarding entry requirements below. People are caught between Covid, an undemocratic leadership, and an economy spiraling out of control with a currency having lost 60% of its value since February.     There are numerous stirring sights in Southeast Asia, but few are more spectacular than the ancient city of Bagan. Located on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, it is home to the densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world.  Comparisons are often drawn between Bagan and the temples of Angkor in Cambodia, but the two vast archaeological sites are very different in appearance and character.     Myanmar's waterways are as integral to the country's character and soul as its golden pagodas and multitude of ethnic groupings. There are over 5000 miles of navigable river in the nation, and boat travel has traditionally been one of the main ways of getting around. These days, with domestic airlines and improvements in infrastructure making travel within the country a lot easier, the country's huge fleet of riverboats do less of a trade than in the past.  However, those with plenty of time on their hands will find that taking the watery route remains the most evocative way to appreciate the languid rhythms of Burmese life. While government ferries can be ramshackle, a number of private companies operate more luxurious itineraries on new vessels or upgraded relics from the British colonial era ranging from a day or two to over a week. The most important river in the country is the Irrawaddy, which is navigable all the way from its delta to the town of Bhamo in Kachin State during the dry season and even further in the wet season.
