Cycle past Besakih and Sidemen and take these Unforgettable Balinese Gems as Memories with you

Bali is prime biking land. If you didn’t know, the Island of the Gods boasts green rice fields, lush valleys, towering mountains and unique temples.

Bali is prime biking land. If you didn’t know, the Island of the Gods boasts green rice fields, lush valleys, towering mountains and unique temples. And you can be a part of all that in just one day of cycling. Pedal up and down the terrain of East Bali and be treated to amazing sites that will leave you in awe scores of unforgettable moments.

Have you noticed the grand volcano that seems to linger in the skies and following you wherever you go? That’s Mount Agung. That’s where you’ll be biking. Towering over 2500 meters above sea level, Mount Agung is the highest mountain on the island of Bali and the fifth highest in the whole of Indonesia. To the locals, it is more than just a volcano. This is a highly spiritual place because one of the most important sanctuaries, Besakih Temple is here, located on the south slopes. Before seeing the grand temple for yourself, drive to Klungkung to visit the former Royal Courts of Justice known as Kerta Gosa. The highlight is an elaborately decorated ceiling featuring the Wayang style of painting depicting the battle of good versus evil.

And now, you’re about to cycle past the Mother Temple, as it is affectionately known by the locals. The complex is actually comprised of 22 temples that sit on parallel ridges. And just to think that all this was spared from the 1963 eruption (by all accounts, the lava flow missed it by mere meters), in which many have lost their lives.

Stop for lunch at Maha Giri restaurant, where you’ll dine on fresh Balinese cuisine while surrounded by great panoramas over rice field terraces with Mt Agung in the background. From the grand architecture to the beautiful green scenery, pedal your way through stunning rice terraces, green trees, lush forested hill-sides and the mountain itself to Sidemen, a peaceful rural region. Bask in this wonderful area as you pedal up and down Sidemen and soothe in the wonderful scenery.
