Myanmar’s potential is being realized! A tropical country, filled with intrigue and mystique is also filled with wonderful adrenaline inducing adventures. Whether it is of the two feet or two wheeled variety, the Shan Hills, linking the Himalayas to China, Myanmar and Thailand is your playground for exploration and adventurous activity. So, get into adventure mode and prepare yourself for an experience of a lifetime.

Start things off with a cycle to the former British hill station of Kalaw. As you pedal up, you’ll notice the flora changing to pine and the weather being cooler. A nice relief for your efforts! On the way, stop by for a local meal at a local restaurant with the locals.

Trade your bike for some hiking boots. You’ll trek towards Pindaya, a quiet town on the banks of the serene Botoloke Lake, walking past several traditional villages of the Palaung tribe, believed to be one of the very first inhabitants of the country. Along the way, you’ll also meet and greet several other hilltribe groups, namely the Danu and Pa-O. Not only will you meet them, you’ll also learn about their ancient traditions, passed down through the generations and practically unchanged through time. You’ll really get enlightened as to how life was like hundreds of years ago.

After lunch, complete the final downhill descent to Pindaya. The scenery remains the same however. The hilltribes are as welcoming and colorful as ever and the scenery; pure bliss! Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel for a well-deserved rest and dinner.

It’s back on the bike again. Depart the town for Nyaung Shwe, located on the banks of Inle Lake, set in beautiful natural surroundings with a mountainous backdrop. The place is beaming with life, filled with several endemic species of fish, birds and other animals. The body of water is also densely inhabited by many different tribes, including the Intha people. They have lived for years in stilted villages upon the lake, and make their livelihood fishing and growing crops on unique floating gardens

Relax and tour the area by private boat. The tranquil and laid back surroundings include floating gardens, unique one legged rowing fishermen traveling around and stilted villages. Speaking of unique, see jumping cats at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda. The monks, while passing the time away, have trained these felines to jump through hoops. What started as a means to kill time has now become the main attraction at the monastery. Upon returning to Nyaung Shwe from your day on the water, reflect on your six day Shan Hills adventure tour you just took.

Looking for adventure in an exotic land? You’ve certainly come to the right place. Myanmar is filled with untamed lands waiting for your discovery. You can see what lies ahead with these Myanmar adventure tours.
