From the Skies to a Posh River Cruise, find out how you can explore Angkor in Luxury

We all know by now, there’s more the Angkor than Angkor Wat. The great temple is just one of many at the Archeological Park.

We all know by now, there’s more the Angkor than Angkor Wat. The great temple is just one of many at the Archeological Park. But have you actually been there? There’s all kinds of great ruins waiting for you to explore. From giant faces of former Khmer kings to tree covered temples, you’ll surely be satisfied after a luxurious time spent here. Yes, we mentioned luxury. And it all starts from the moment you walk into your hotel.

The adventure starts right off the bat after you freshen up at the Raffles Grand Hotel D’Angkor (another hotel of your choice can be chosen; see here). Hop on the back of an elephant for that rumbling and tumbling ride through the Cambodian landscape. It is then time to spend the afternoon amongst history. This is where you’ll finally get to walk the temples of Angkor. Next up are those massive Bayon faces. Return the stare back at them. Show them who’s boss! Then it’s off to the Angkor National Museum for an interesting introduction to the history on a visit guided by an expert in this field.

You want Angkor Wat? Here it is, spend most of the day basking in its grand splendor. The place is huge, certainly one of the world’s largest religious structures. Inside are well-preserved galleries and bas reliefs depicting the Ramayana epic. Then, take to the skies! Your luxury experience continues inside a helicopter. See if you can spot Angkor Wat and other temples from up here. Can’t fault the view.

Your lunch is more than lunch. You’ll also be helping disadvantaged children in the process. Enter Ecole Paul Dubrule, a well-respected hospitality school that trains disadvantaged Cambodians in the field for future careers in hospitality.

Then its off the explore Ta Phrom. And we used the word explore purposely because you’ll feel like an explorer. Why? Check out those trees and branches gobbling up the temple. Ta Phrom has been left the way Europeans have found it a couple hundred years ago. From a fig tree temple to a pink sandstone one, you’ll delve into the forest on a visit to Banteay Srei, an elaborately carved temple known as the citadel of women.

Recap your temple touring with an evening at Tonle Sap. The calm waters and laid back atmosphere makes for a great place to relax and reflect. Cruise along on a handcrafted riverboat where champagne and a French inspired dinner awaits.
