Southeast Asia Is a Growing Region for Wine Enthusiasts

Imagine lounging about on a warm tropical beach, or having a candlelit dinner in full view of limestone formations or in a safari-themed jungle bar in the middle of a rainforest.

Imagine lounging about on a warm tropical beach, or having a candlelit dinner in full view of limestone formations or in a safari-themed jungle bar in the middle of a rainforest. Wouldn’t you like to have a fine glass of wine in your hand? Southeast Asia is fast becoming a respected wine producing area and you can enjoy its wonders with a fine glass of local produce.

The wine growing boom the region has just experienced is a phenomenon in itself. The grapes are usually grown between the 30th and 50th latitudes in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Southeast Asia is definetly a peculiar choice to grow the wine grapes because the tropical climate is considered unsuitable for cultivating the fruit. Let’s take a look at some of the region’s prime growing areas.

Khao Yai, Thailand’s first named national park is more than perfect for wine grape growing. Its 2000 meter above sea level position, pleasently cool weather and soil are the right ingredients for it. While embarking on Exotissimo’s Khao Yai Escape tour, you will get to visit Grande Monte Vineyard for lunch at its charming and scenic restaurant with a chance to explore the area and taste the various wines available. The area is also famous for its cascading waterfalls, lush forests and a plethora of tropical animals. If you love the outdoors and don’t mind a few good drinks, then Khao Yai is where you need to be.

One of Thailand’s most popular seaside resorts, Hua Hin, is also being recognized as a prime wine growing area. Hua Hin Hills Vineyard’s loamy-sand and slate terrain as well as its cool ocean breeze produces the aromatic and award winning Monsoon Valley Wines.

Because of its French connection, wine has and continues to be a popular beverage in Vietnam. Dalat is a prime wine growing area; its highland terrain, almost European-like weather and flora gives the former hill station town the right environment for wine growing.

The Inle Lake area is Myanmar’s prime wine growing region. Exotissimo’s Myanmar for the Connoisseur features an exclusive experience at Red Mountain Estate, a joint venture with the native Pa Oh people and a French winemaker.

Relaxing in Southeast Asia with a glass of wine – a truly winning combination.
