Explore Chiang Mai on Foot and then take to the Skies in a Truly Scenic Northern Thai Experience

Chiang Mai sure is an atmospheric city. Miles away from the beach spots down south or the big cosmopolitan metro of Bangkok in Central Thailand, this northern city exudes its own unique character.

Chiang Mai sure is an atmospheric city. Miles away from the beach spots down south or the big cosmopolitan metro of Bangkok in Central Thailand, this northern city exudes its own unique character. Combining the always charming Northern Thai Lanna cultural aesthetics with modern city flair, Chiang Mai is truly a city of contrasts. This combination results in a city filled with temples and modern buildings. Throw in the mountain scenery and cool air that comes with it and you’ll have a Thai city unlike any other. Of course it’s always nice to see the city by air. What if you can? Read on.

Let’s get to know the city a little bit before we hit the skies. Chiang Mai is known for its walls. What is inside of them? The city’s historical center and home to some wonderful ancient temples built in a combination of Burmese, Sri Lankan and Lanna Thai styles.

Of course no visit to Chiang Mai is complete without a stop at Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. It is located on a mountain called, yes you guessed it, Doi Suthep,  some 10 kilometers from the city center. Excellent views up there.

Another important temple site is Wat Chiang Mun, the city’s oldest temple built in 1297. This temple houses two important and venerated Buddha figures, the marble Phra Sila (alleged to have rain giving powers) and the crystal Phra Satang Man (alleged to protect people and cities from disasters). There are over 300 temples in Chiang Mai, so if temple touring is your thing, well you are in temple paradise.

Now that you’ve seen what Chiang Mai has to offer on foot, see what Chiang Mai looks like from the air with our Sga Scenic Flight. We’ll escort you into your private Cessna Grand Caravan. For added effect, we have decided to fly you around at low altitude so you can truly soak the experience in. See how Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, Wat Chiang Mun and others look like if you were a bird. Plus experience the city’s natural scenes like the Ping River, Mount Chiang Dao and other major sights. End the experience and reflect back on the experience with a glass of champagne.
