EXO Community Forest in Dong Nai, Vietnam – Update!

EXO Community Forest in Dong Nai, Vietnam – Update!

Our tree seedlings are thriving, four years later!
On 14 July, 2018, 140 of our staff came joined up with Gaia Nature Conservation to plant 500 trees across one hectare of forest in Dong Nai World Biosphere Reserve, the last habitat of Asian elephants in Vietnam.
For the last four years, Gaia has been tending to the forest. In October 2021, they surveyed it and found that 86% of the trees planted are now thriving. These trees bolster the local ecosystem and help to provide crucial water protection, soil improvement, oxygen generation, CO2 absorption and subsequent climate change mitigation.

As they say: ‘a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’ While this is but a small step in our journey to protect habitats across our destinations, we are strong believers that the small actions of many can make huge positive impacts on the world.

Overview of Gaia Assessment of Forest:

Description of the forest
– Total area: 1ha
– Location: Km 15, Subzone 147, Area 2,
Patch A, A Dong Nai World Biosphere
Reserve (Tiểu khu 147, Khoảnh 2, Lô A).
– Forest type: 327 CKD.
– History: the forest land used to belong to a
Forest Enterprise; trees were totally cut
down when the area was hand on to Dong
Nai World Biosphere Reserve (Dong Nai
Culture and Nature Reserve) in 2004.
– Reforestation history: the land was
reforestation for the first time in 1995 with only Hopea odorata (Sao). The trees were
grown in 6X7m separate from each other.
In 2015, Sindora siamensis was planted in the middle of two Hopea odorata, so that the
distance from Sindora siamensis to Hopea odorata is 3X3.5m
