Covering an area of about 540 square kilometers, Phuket is Thailand’s largest island. It is also a great tropical escape, owing to its beautiful shorelines, jungle and hilly interior and a calm seaside lifestyle. Many of course come to Phuket to head out to its waters. And why not? It is picture perfect blue. Diving options are available. And so are kayaking excursions in and out of limestone caves. How does an evening paddling experience in Phuket waters lit by the night sky sound? Sound nice? You know where this is going.

There’s no denying the beauty of Phuket. After all, it is in the Andaman Sea. And you are in the tropics. This combination makes for balmy weather (that is a given) and different varieties of natural beauty. There are lots to see in Phuket by day. Some of those very scenes become even more impressive by night.  If you are thinking about the limestone cliffs and turquoise waters of Phang Nga Bay, then spot on! In case you were wondering this is where the famous James Bond Island is.

New to sea cave kayaking? Not to worry! You are in good hands with veteran canoe specialist John Gray. First, we’ll get you to see the area’s highlights by day. Explore the sea caves and limestone islets and let the area’s natural beauty put you in a state of amazement. You’ll also meet the animals that call Phang Nga Bay home, such as the fish visible from your boat, flying sea birds and the bats that live in the caverns (not to worry, they are sleeping). We’ll also take you to secluded hongs; lagoons surrounded on all sides by towering cliffs.

Make some kratongs (floating lanterns). What will they be used for? As the sun starts to set in the horizon, you’ll float them away. This tradition stems from the Thai festival of Loy Kratong, where all your problems and grudges float off and you start anew. And not to worry. They are purely made of natural and biodegradable material. Enjoy a nice seafood dinner and prepare yourself for the final highlight of the trip, a canoe experience into one of the hongs, beautifully lit by the night sky, fireflies and phosphorescence. Mother Nature never ceases to impress!
