Although Bali is arguably best known for its laid-back qualities, there’s plenty of scope for adventure on the ‘island of the Gods’. With the beach resorts in the south soaking up much of the tourist traffic, much of the rest of the island is ripe for discovery. One of the best ways of exploring is by bicycle, and this active adventure is an excellent conduit to the lesser-known attractions of the island’s interior. The odyssey begins in spectacular style as guests pit their limbs against some challenging ascents on their way to pretty Lake Bratan, famous for Ulun Datan temple, which appears to float on the placid waters of the lake. Also worth the effort is misty Tamblingan Lake, where guests can paddle across the surface using kayaks. After a breather on the island’s north coast, it is back to the bikes for an exhilarating ride back south through the rice-paddies and rolling hills of West Bali.
