Fact: Sumatra is home to an unbelievable and unique range of plant and animal species. Fact: North Sumatra is an adventurer’s paradise. Fact: You will have a good time in North Sumatra.

Kick off the tour with some history and insight with a visit to the Sultan’s Deli Palace, built in 1888. For a time, it was the administrative center of the area before the city of Medan began to develop. After visiting the Great Mosque, hop into a waiting vehicle and prepare for a nice scenic drive to Gunung Leuser National Park. Your accommodation for the night is nothing more than a simple and basic lodge surrounded by the serene and green environment. Great way to connect with Mother Nature.

Now let’s get the nature expedition started! Climb aboard the Sumatran Elephant and sway left and right as the giant tours you around the jungle and river with you on its back. Afterwards, we’ll go through some rough terrain. That’s your cue, off-road jeep. You’ll visit villages and be presented with documentary worthy scenes of the area. If you want to white water raft on the Wampu River, we can throw that in as well. The highlight is rafting under a magnificent waterfall, and enjoying a natural shower! Contact us if you would like to include this extra day on this tour.

You must be itching to see the orangutans. That’s where your next experience comes in. Hike your way to their feeding grounds and see these guys in action! Continue on with your hike deeper into the jungle and witness some awesome plant and animal species unique only to Sumatra. Reach Brastagi in the afternoon. Enjoy your climate station stay, located some 1400 meters above sea-level. The area is known for its cool climate, orchids, flowers, vegetables and fruits.

If you haven’t used your camera yet (what were you doing this whole time?) then we advise you to do so now. You’ll leave for Lake Toba and Samosir, an island within a volcanic lake. En-route, stop to see the 120 meter Sipiso-piso waterfall, formed by an underground river that then plunges from a cave into Lake Toba caldera. Your nature escapade continues to Parapat, a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Toba where you’ll cross to Samosir Island, which was formed by the volcano over 75,000 years ago. Spend the whole day exploring the lake. Embrace the nature and the culture here and feel free to enjoy the scenery at leisure.

This North Sumatra Soft Adventure tour is the ideal vacation for intrepid travelers who want to learn more about off-the-beaten-track destinations and the well preserved cultures existing within Indonesia. Enjoy!
