New Tour: Extraordinary Encounters in Shan (4 Days / 3 Nights)

Myanmar is a spectacular destination, home to some of Southeast Asia’s most breathtaking scenery. Sharing borders with three of Myanmar’s equally beguiling neighbors; China, Thailand and Laos, the northeast Shan State is a prime example of the country’s wondrous natural surroundings and awe-inspiring landscape.

Beginning with a journey to the Green Valley Elephant Camp in Magwe Village, the tour unveils the history of Myanmar’s elephants, as well as the camp’s reforestation projects. Following a night in Kalaw, an adventurous trek leads through the villages of Kone Hla, Baw Hnin Kone and Htun Kom. The route offers dramatic views across farmed passes and the Shan Mountain Range, and overnighting in the simple confines of a local monastery provides a special end to the day.

The trekking continues to Inle Lake allowing visitors to witness the plethora of tribal communities who call the region home, including Pa-O, Danu, Taung Yoe and Inthar groups. Finally, the journey concludes with an exploration of Sagar, where after a tranquil crossing of the lake, the sunken stupas of Sagar await discovery, and a glimpse into the local livelihoods provides a stunning insight into these faraway lands.

Richard Ludwig, our Product Manager, had some comments about the new tour. “We couldn’t think of three more exciting, interesting and thought-provoking experiences to string together. It combines wildlife, trekking, religion and culture which can easily be added to a longer trip. You travel by car, foot and boat. Accommodation is split between a hotel, village lodge and monastery. The trip has all the touch points our travelers are looking for. ”
