Let Luang Prabang’s Historical, Cultural and Natural Gems Wow the Senses

If you need to satisfy your temple touring urge, then may we recommend you one place, Luang Prabang, the ever so lovely, charming and laid back town in Laos.

If you need to satisfy your temple touring urge, then may we recommend you one place, Luang Prabang, the ever so lovely, charming and laid back town in Laos. It is nothing more than a collection of old wooden houses with sprinkles of colonial flair here and there. Included in this recipe for the senses are glittering temples decorated with the ever so attractive murals and mosaics of the Buddha. Add in tree-lined streets and the fact that this is one of the region’s cleanest cities and you’re in for a soothing experience here.

Luang Prabang is a UNESCO Heritage Town, so you know there is some historical and cultural significance here. Oh, and it probably also means that there are some wonderful sites as well. Go on over to Wat Xieng Thong. Built in 1560, this is the oldest temple in town. This is just one of numerous temples you will see. And did we mention the town’s location by the Mekong? Your exploration of Luang Prabang will certainly be comfortable and soothing.

Ready to climb 328 steps? C’mon, the rewards are great! Not only are more temples and Buddha images up there, you’ll also get a great bird’s eye view of the entire town! The sight is just unbelievable from up there.

Are you an early bird? If so, then you’re in for a treat. Each morning lines and lines of monks in orange proceed on their alms walks. There certainly isn’t a sight like this anywhere else. You are more than welcome to participate in this merit making tradition by offering one of these boys or men some food and/or useful items. In return, you’ll receive a blessing.

You’re in for some nice treats just outside of Luang Prabang as well. Cruise along the Mekong and head to Pak Ou Caves. Have you ever seen a cavern filled with thousands of Buddha images? There’s a first for everything. And just a short transfer from the cave is one of Laos’ favorite waterfalls, Kuag Si. Feel free to jump in or relax with a poolside picnic. Or explore the surrounding area.

Certainly worthy of its UNESCO title, Luang Prabang is a feast on the senses. A touch of culture, some heritage, a little bit of mysticism and some nature thrown in the mix as well – there’s a little bit of something for everyone at Enchanting Luang Prabang.
