The Central Coast of Vietnam. The imperial legacy of the country is to be felt here. And you’ll experience the area in utter style and luxury, just as these guys have lived their lives hundreds of years ago. First up Hue then Hoi An, both UNESCO destinations in their own right and both offering you with countless experiences that will stand the test of time in your memory bank.

Take a stroll around Hue, Vietnam’s old capital from 1802 to 1945. A lot of the sites here reflect its history during and even before those mentioned years. Highlights include the Hue Royal Fine Arts Museum, housed within the former Dien Long An Royal Palace, and the city’s private garden houses with connections to the old Royal Imperial Court.

The Imperial Citadel is also not to be missed! This is the former imperial seat of government and Hue’s prime attraction. Inside is a great collection of sprawling temple complexes, pavilions, moats, walls, museums and galleries. Within the galleries are fine displays of Vietnamese costumes throughout the ages, giving you an idea of the garments worn at the time.

You’ll also flow along the romantically named Perfume River. While doing so, you’ll come across the tombs and mausoleums of past emperors. Just seeing them alone warrants a trip on this river. Otherwise, enjoy the peace and serenity. You’ll also meet a master monk at the Chau Lam Pagoda to discuss Buddhism and calligraphy. Included on both nights are unforgettable dinner experiences, one at a charming restaurant and another at a garden house, both fine representations of Hue.

It’d be hard to match the aura of Hue, but we believe we’ve found just the place to continue the imperial journey. Hoi An is the destination and finely preserved 300 or so year old Chinese style shop houses and a laid back beach are the themes here.

A unique feature of this part of your journey is the chance to see the countryside while riding on a sidecar of a motorcycle with a private driver. Spend some time with a local farming family. Tell them what you have learned so far with your Hue excursions and what you think of Hoi An. Share them your life stories. They in turn will be more than happy to tell you about theirs.

By now you must have realized how much cycling plays an important role in the Vietnamese’s life. Do the same and head to Tra Que village where you will have the opportunity to partake in some of the daily gardening activities. Leisure time is also a plenty here. Whether it is a quiet moment to relax by the beach, a well deserved spa treatment or an exciting speedboat excursion, the choice is yours.
