Want to be a pioneer? Want to go to a land where few has stepped foot on before? Then Myanmar is your ticket to being that unique individual! With splendid colonial architecture, charming waterside destinations and what seem to be more temples than tourists, Myanmar really is a golden land for the unique and trendsetting traveler.

Yangon is the perfect place to start things off. It is not the capital anymore, but it still is the country’s biggest city as well as the country’s main economic hub. A lot of cool and interesting sites are here too. You got Myanmar’s most iconic structure Shwedagon Pagoda flexing its golden might on you. Also, check out the National Museum and Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, home to a very long reclining Buddha statue.

From Yangon, take a short flight north takes you to Bagan. You have never have seen a place like this before! The town holds the distinction of having the most temples and pagodas in the world! Awe at the town’s sheer majesty and at this historic sighting. Explore by foot, horse-carriage, hot air balloon, or by all methods.

From the charming town of Bagan, we’ll now take you to another charming town (and one with a name to match) Mandalay. Myanmar’s second largest city also boasts some impressive monasteries and pagodas. The town is also home to some world records. Check out the holy Mahamuni Pagoda and Kuthodaw Pagoda, home to the world’s largest book. Explore the ancient capitals of Amarapur, Ava and Sagaing in the proximity and trek across the longest teak bridge in the world at U Bein Bridge.

Let’s hit the waters and experience some unique things over at Inle Lake. Rub your eyes if you need to, but yes those guys are rowing their boats with their leg! It certainly makes sense considering the tall weeds in the area and the good view they have of the fish below.

And yes, those cats are jumping through hoops! For a minute there you probably though you were in a circus. But no, this is Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, a Buddhist temple. The monks there have taken care of these felines and taught them this cool trick. Just to let you know, there is also a collection of Shan, Tibetan, Bagan and Ava style ancient Buddha images. We understand, it is easy to be distracted by those cute skillful animals.

There is also time to explore other parts of the lake. Experience the local lifestyle at a bustling floating market, which rotates around the waterside villages in a five day sequence. Weave your way through small canals and explore stupas along the side of the lake.

Now you got the Essentials of Myanmar down. You are that pioneer you yearn to be. Burma has a knack of charming and wowing visitors and many find their way back here again. See what else the country has in store for you with our Myanmar tours page.
