Cambodia Island Escapes: EXO’s Favourite Beaches

Cambodia Island Escapes: EXO’s Favourite Beaches

Discover why EXO UK Sales Manager, Sophie, loves the Cambodian Coast

Cambodia’s beaches have remained under the radar for most travellers but that is all set to change.  With two fabulous new resorts and improvements in road and air access, EXO is excited to shine a spotlight on the country’s southern coast.

After a recent inspection, we asked EXO’s UK Sales Manager Sophie Rowley to share her impressions of this corner of Cambodia.

‘Many travellers think of Cambodia as a quick stopover on their way to neighbouring countries, mainly to visit Angkor Wat. However, the country has so much more to offer – its wildlife is diverse, its towns are charming, and the local food is delicious,’ Sophie explains. ‘And the best thing? You don’t need to leave Cambodia to find that much-needed beach escape!’

Song Saa Private Island and Resort

A self-described ‘carefree paradise’, Song Saa is a private island resort developed with sustainability in mind.

The 24-private pool villas blend natural local materials and design with contemporary comforts, resulting in a rustic island vibe.

As if to prove this laid-back detachment from the modern world, Song Saa operates on ‘island time’, a one hour time difference from the mainland.

‘Far from a world of glossy resorts, I find the charm and character of the island blissful. You truly feel that you have found Cambodian paradise,’ Sophie remarks.

Aside from the stunning location, Song Saa boasts other luxury touches with sublime food, impeccable yet discrete service and an indulgent spa.

The resort’s activity list is also note-worthy, particularly snorkelling at the house reef and the local village tour.

To maximise guests’ time at Song Saa Resort, EXO strongly recommends the all-inclusive package which includes three tasty meals a day, excursions, spa treatments, daily sundowners and other indulgent extras.

’Spending at least 3 nights on Song Saa island is needed, as there is simply so much to do, but equally it’s a place to do nothing,’ Sophie concludes.

‘If you’re searching for a destination that embodies barefoot luxury, I strongly suggest considering Song Saa.’

Six Senses Krabey Island and Resort

The Six Senses Resort- Krabey is the sole occupant of Krabey Island, boasting 40 private pool villas spread across 30 acres.

The property seamlessly integrates the villas into the lush tropical jungle, creating a sense of seclusion and opulence while retaining a wild, undeveloped island feel.

The thoughtfully-designed rooms showcase the natural surroundings and give a nod to local Khmer style without sacrificing on space or comforts.

From families with children, to couples seeking romance and solitude, the layout of the island ensures you feel a million miles away,’ Sophie remarks.

The resort’s menu of activities and experiences focuses on immersion in the natural surroundings

Six Senses properties are known for their fantastic facilities and the Krabey Island property is no exception.

Dining options focus on seasonal ingredients from the resort’s garden and adjacent sea, while the resort’s menu of activities and experiences also focuses on immersion in the natural surroundings.

When asked about her favourite facility at Six Senses Krabey, Sophie was quick to reply, ‘The Spa! Taking inspiration from the sacred Kbal Spean River, it’s an impressive part of the resort for a sumptuous wellness experience.

She adds, ‘I also love the Earth Lab, which highlights the resort’s sustainable initiatives.’

Getting There

Getting to Cambodia’s coast is easier than ever, thanks to increased flight options and improved roadways.

By Plane:  Daily direct flights from Siem Reap to Sihanoukville airport take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.  From there it’s a 15-minute drive to Krabey Island jetty followed by a 10-minute private boat trip to Six Senses. To access Song Saa from the airport, it takes 15 minutes by car to the new Koh Rong Port followed by a 45-minute private boat trip to the resort.

By Road: Thanks to recent road construction, it takes only 2.5 hours to drive from Phnom Penh Airport to Koh Rong Port or Krabey Island Jetty.

By Helicopter: Chartered helicopters offer a smooth, time-saving journey. Available from Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, a private helicopter flight to Sihanoukville takes approximately 45 – 60 minutes. From there, guests can continue with a short road and boat transfer to either resort.
