Welcome to Bangkok, the City of Angels. Certainly one of Southeast Asia’s if not, Asia’s most cosmopolitan and certainly interesting cities.

Welcome to Bangkok, the City of Angels. Certainly one of Southeast Asia’s if not, Asia’s most cosmopolitan and certainly interesting cities. Thailand’s capital has grown tremendously over the past 20-25 years, being nothing more than a modest urban area to one of the world’s buzzing cities. And with this development comes improvement to its transportation systems. Roads have become much better, taxis are now metered and let’s not forget the rapid rail system (which was non-existent just 12 years ago). Take advantage of these benefits (and some other neat transportation methods) as you embark on a Bangkok City Safari. Please wear appropriate attire (no revealing of the shoulders and legs) as we’ll be visiting some temples.

All right. Finish up your breakfast and let’s get started on a truly original day of sightseeing the capital. We will only use public transportation today. So, let’s head up to the BTS Skytrain platform and kick things off. We’ll first head over to the Saphan Taksin station, located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. After that, we’ll head down to Tha Thien Pier, catch a boat and head over to Wat Pho, home to an impressive reclining Buddha statue. Did you also know that Wat Pho is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage?

After that, we’ll walk over to the nearby Grand Palace. Constructed in 1782, the complex has been expanded through time to the glittering wonder of temples and traditional Thai structures you see today. It is also host to the revered Emerald Buddha, one of the religion’s most venerated relics.

Next we’ll leave it up to you. If you want to walk across the royal fields of Sanam Luang and eventually into the backpacker’s mecca of Khao San Road, feel free to do so. Otherwise, we can hop on the iconic tuk-tuk instead. Let’s go aquatic again! Bangkok was once known as the Venice of the East and a perfect example of this is at Klong Saen Saep (Saen Saep Canal, if you need translation). Hop on the boat and see Bangkok canal life. Disembark for a short walk in Ratchathewi boat station to visit Jim Thompson‘s House Museum. After the visit, check out some of Bangkok’s modern mega malls (MBK, Siam Square, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, Siam Paragon) or simply return to your hotel by BTS.
