Few destinations on earth are as evocative as Borneo. The third largest island on the planet is a mysterious and rugged place of incredible natural interest with wide rivers, misty peaks, virgin jungle and diverse wildlife. This journey showcases some prime Borneo scenery at two of its most accessible national parks: Mulu and Kinabalu. The action begins in Mulu National Park, which boasts a number of highlights. These include Lang Cave – the largest cave passage in the world – and Deer Cave with its colony of thousands of free-tailed bats. Other caves worth exploring include Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, part of the Sarawak Chamber, the largest connected cave system in the world. From Mulu National Park, it is a short hop to Kota Kinabalu, the jumping off point for Kinabalu National Park, home of the tallest mountain in Southeast Asia as well as flora and fauna that includes rare and beautiful Slipper Orchids and the world’s largest pitcher plant.
