We all know how stunning Bali is. The mountains, the volcanoes, rice fields, people and culture; it’s all beautiful. Don’t forget the beaches and azure waters too. And in these waters, a plethora of color and marine life. That’s where our Tulamben Dive day trip comes in. This is one of Indonesia’s best dives sites, so you know it’s gonna be good.

What makes Tulamben such an attractive dive site? Well, have you heard of the USAT Liberty? The ship (or what’s left of it) lies at the bottom of the ocean floor there. It was shot by Japanese submarine torpedoes during World War 2 and serves as the dive site’s main attraction. The ship was actually being repaired but tremors from a Mount Agung eruption in 1963 caused the vessel to slip into the ocean floor, where it has remained to this day.

The good news is that the shipwreck lies in shallow waters, meaning that divers of all levels can explore it. In fact, the ship rests in only 30 meters from water and is roughly 25 meters from shore, meaning you can practically swim from the beach to the USAT Liberty. Corals have also claimed most of the ship, resulting in a beautiful and picture worthy scene.

There are many sites to choose from in this area such as a great drop off at glance, coral garden, shark points and a deep coral reef. Tulamben is also one of the best spots for a night dive. If you so wish, you can also take an early morning dive and be around when the sun rises. Epic!

More good news. The water temperature here is warm all year round, usually in the 27°C or 28°C range. There are also no currents to worry about here, as the waters are pretty much calm all year round as well.
