Hello from Cairo!
This month, we’re sharing a few ideas for seeing Egypt from a different perspective, from the lesser-visited landscapes of Fayoum and the White Desert to an 11-day journey combining hidden archaeological gems with a leisurely dahabiya cruise. We’re also featuring two Cairo experiences worth considering: a local food walk after dark and an exclusive private visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum outside opening hours.
For accommodation, we’re revisiting two very different favourites: Nala Narty Nubian House in Aswan for its warm Nubian hospitality and Amarina Abu Soma Resort & Aqua Park for a relaxed Red Sea escape.
You’ll also find some useful destination updates, including the latest on the Giza Pyramids and the upcoming 2027 solar eclipse, along with more ideas to help make your Egypt programmes even more memorable.

Egypt Off the Beaten Path
11 days / 10 nights
For agents looking to offer something beyond Egypt’s classic highlights, this 11-day journey is a personal favourite worth considering. It combines the desert landscapes of Fayoum and the colourful temples of Dendera with a leisurely dahabiya cruise between Luxor and Aswan. What makes it special is the balance between iconic ancient wonders and lesser-visited places, with time to explore Egypt at a slower, more immersive pace.
Fayoum & White Desert
Escape
3 days / 2 nights
I’d recommend this trip to anyone looking to add a little adventure to a stay in Cairo. In just three days, it takes travellers from the lakes and ancient fossils of Fayoum to the Black Desert and the surreal limestone formations of the White Desert. Sandboarding at Magic Lake and exploring the ancient tombs of Bahariya add extra variety. It’s a wonderful way to discover a completely different side of Egypt beyond its temples and monuments.
Cairo Foodie Walk
Evening
One of the best ways to get a feel for Cairo’s local culture is through its food. As the city comes alive after dark, a knowledgeable guide leads the way through lively streets and neighbourhoods, stopping at trusted local vendors to sample authentic Egyptian street food. Along the way, travellers discover the stories behind local dishes and culinary traditions, making this a tasty introduction to everyday life in Cairo.
GEM in Private
Half day
For luxury travellers seeking something truly exclusive, this private experience offers a rare opportunity to explore the Grand Egyptian Museum before or after opening hours. Away from the usual crowds, a private guide brings ancient Egypt’s stories to life through the main galleries, covering the themes of kingship, society and beliefs. With extra space to appreciate the remarkable artefacts and impressive architecture, it adds a special touch to a high-end Cairo stay.

Nala Narty Nubian House
Aswan
Some places stay with you for the people you meet and the atmosphere they create. Nala Narty Nubian House is one of those lovely finds, tucked away in Gharb Sohail, a colourful Nubian village on the west bank of the Nile. The warm hospitality, home-cooked Nubian meals and chance to experience everyday village life make it a charming alternative to a conventional hotel. It’s a great choice for travellers who value genuine local connections and a slower, more personal side of Aswan.
Amarina Abu Soma Resort & Aqua Park
Hurghada
For a relaxed Red Sea escape with something for everyone, Amarina Abu Soma is a solid choice. Its long sandy beach and spacious pool areas offer plenty of room to unwind, while the aqua park keeps families and younger travellers entertained. The all-inclusive setup makes for an easy, carefree stay, with a good balance of activities and quieter spots to enjoy the sea views. It’s a good option for travellers looking to combine beach time, family fun and a slower holiday pace.

The Pyramid of Khafre reopens to visitors
The Pyramid of Khafre on the Giza Plateau has reopened, while the Pyramid of Menkaure is temporarily closed for restoration. This follows Egypt’s three-pyramid rotation plan, under which one pyramid closes periodically for inspections and upgrades to ventilation and lighting systems while another remains open to visitors. Discover more Giza experiences here.
Tethered balloon experience near the Giza Pyramids
A new way to see the Pyramids of Giza from above is in development. The tethered balloon completed trial flights in late August 2026, rising up to 150 metres for a panoramic experience lasting around 15 minutes. Located in the desert approximately 2 km from the Pyramids, the experience will feature audio-visual commentary available in 12 languages. A public opening date and ticket prices have not yet been officially announced. We’ll keep monitoring its opening and update you once available. Meanwhile, you can explore our hot air balloon options in Luxor here.
VR experience at Cairo International Airport
Travellers passing through Terminal 2 at Cairo International Airport can now explore ancient Egypt through an immersive VR experience featuring 3D visuals and sound. Open 24/7, each session accommodates up to 16 visitors at a time, making it an interesting option for clients with time to spare before departure.
Total solar eclipse in Egypt – 2 August 2027
Egypt is preparing for an extraordinary astronomical event in August 2027, when a total solar eclipse will bring more than six minutes of darkness to the skies above Luxor. On 2 August, the eclipse is expected to reach its peak at approximately 13:05 local time. It’s a great opportunity to combine this once-in-a-lifetime moment with visits to Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings or a Nile cruise. With interest likely to be high, I’d suggest planning accommodation and viewing arrangements well in advance. Take a look at our Luxor experiences to help build an itinerary around the eclipse.
