So, what do you know about Luang Prabang? Is it a UNESCO World Heritage City? Yes it is. Laos’ cultural capital is also known as one of the region’s cleanest city as well as its gleaming Buddhist temples, colonial buildings and tree-lined boulevards and riverbanks. Exotissimo’s Luang Prabang Join-in Tour takes you to these sites as well deeper excursions into the heritage of the city and to the lesser known destinations with like-minded travelers like yourself.

No Luang Prabang journey would be complete without experiencing the alms-giving ceremony. A heed of warning though, you will have to wake up very early in the morning. Early meaning even before the roosters starts crowing. Monks will be walking even before 6am, so please rest accordingly. The site is amazing though as lines of orange-clad monks light up the early morning scenery.

Luang Prabang is one of the easiest and safest cities to travel by bike. Yes, exploring the city by bike is on the cards. Not on any bike, but an electric bike. These machines are battery powered and can accelerate either by revving the handlebar or by cycling like a traditional bicycle. They do not go that fast at all and are safe, even for children. After a short briefing to explain how to use your new emissions-free vehicle, it will be time to start your discovery of Luang Prabang, passing markets, mountains and glittering temples.

After lunch, continue to the Phosy Market where you can join the locals and support vendors by buying fresh products or fruit. A short ride takes you to your final stop of the day, Ock Pop Tock. This non-profit organization seeks to preserve traditional weaving techniques, a trade which was once an important source of income for many Lao families but is slowly fading out as modern technology has evolved.

This afternoon allows you to become even more Lao as you partake in a Baci ceremony. The ritual has animist roots and is performed in celebration of important events like weddings, births, entering of monkhood and yes, even your visit to Luang Prabang! Then, enjoy a charming dinner along the banks of the Mekong, a fitting way to end the day.

A day of a fun-filled outdoor activity afternoon awaits you at Kamu Lodge today. Before that though, take some time to see a strange but also eye-catching site at Pak Ou Caves. We dare you to count them, but estimates have at least 4,000 Buddha images here. Continue upriver until you reach Kamu Lodge, your home for the night. What do you want to do? Plant rice? Pan for gold? Trek? Go fishing? The choice is yours.
