When you hear the word Bali, what springs to mind?  Do beautiful beaches, wonderful surfs, volcanoes, green rice fields and deeply spiritual locals adhering to an exotic and unique culture ring a bell?  Basically, anything that has to do with a paradise island, right?  Well, you are correct!  Bali is also known for its tasty cuisine.  Let’s zip through the island and discover Bali’s culture and cuisine, shall we?

If you are looking into Balinese culture, the first place you have to go is Ubud.  Not only is this the center of Bali’s culture and art scene, the place it also where some of the best spas are at!  A great remedy after that long plane ride.  Afterwards, enjoy a traditional Balinese dance and your dinner…crispy fried duck, mmmmmmm.

So, how does an authentic Balinese cooking class sound?  Sounds great!  After a light morning tour, create and eat your creation!  It’s then time to get spiritual and visit Besakih Temple, on the slopes of Mount Agung.  Then, head back to Ubud for a luxury dining experience at Mozaic.  Try the Wagyu Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio Marinated in Fresh Cêpe Oil, Cêpe Mushroom ‘Saté’ and Grana Padano Parmesan.  Words cannot describe it.

Now, to really get a grasp on Bali’s art scene, it is best to embark on a museum tour.  The first such place you will visit is The Blanco Renaissance Museum, in dedication to Don Antonio Blanco.  The museum and its art pieces truly reflects the man, a blend of Balinese and charismatic Catalan flair.  Then visit the ARMA Museum where theater performances, dances and music add variety to your art appreciation experience.

Want a lunch where you can actually immerse yourself with the Bali landscape?  Indus Restaurant is the place for it!  Not only will you get a fresh, healthy and mouthwatering meal, views of the Tjampuhan River and Mount Agung are presented to you here.  This afternoon, visit some of the city’s best art galleries before heading to Taman Ayun temple near Mengwi and finally to your hotel for dinner.

So, if you are going to eat the country’s food, wouldn’t it be nice to know where it actually came from?  Start this morning learning how to harvest rice from farmers.  Not only will you get to know the origins of this staple food, but you will also get to see beautiful rice fields and interact with the farmers.  A great way to get in touch with the real Bali.  From there, take a scenic drive to your next destination, Tanah Lot.  This is Bali’s most picturesque temple.  Put your camera to use.

So, now you’ve sampled Balinese food and even had a cooking class.  How about another cooking class?  This time with a couple of twists.  You will actually go out and buy your ingredients at a local market.  After buying what you need, you will cook it with steamers on wood-fire terracotta stoves in an open kitchen and eat your creation amid a traditional setting of wooden benches with bare hands.  True Balinese style!  Then enjoy a delicious farewell dinner at Gado-Gado.  A recommendation: Grilled Rouleau of Chicken with Green Asparagus, Tomato Confit, Parmesan and Tarragon Mayonnaise.  Need we say more?
