At the crossroads of eastern and western China, Mongolia and Sichuan province to the south, Gansu is a historic meeting point for various cultures including, Han, Mongolians, Manchu and Tibetans. With rugged mountains, serene lakes and wild wonders of the world such as Bayi glacier, a 200 million years old natural phenomenon, providing visual sustenance, the province is an unsung gem for travellers. Natural highlights here include the Gangshika Mountain and Hala Lake, a giant salt lake that shelters 400 kinds of species. Also memorable is the famous night market in Lanzhou where delicacies from around China can be enjoyed as well as the city’s regional museum, which hosts over 70,000 relics including painting, silk and wooden sculptures.
