Itinerary

📍 Luang Prabang Airport – Luang Prabang (4 km): 15 min

Welcome to Luang Prabang, the spiritual capital of Laos!

Upon arrival to Luang Prabang, our guide and driver will be waiting at the airport to provide transport to the hotel for check in. After spending some time relaxing at the hotel, head to the centrally located Mt. Phousi. Climbing its 328 steps, reach the peak of the hill which provides stunning, panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Before heading back to the hotel, enjoy a stroll through the evening market, home to a range of souvenirs and textiles.

Overnight in Luang Prabang

Inclusions:

📍 Boat trip to Pak Ou Caves (25 km): 2 hours

After breakfast, transfer to the nearby pier to board a private longtail boat for a scenic 2 hour ride up the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves.

Located upstream from Luang Prabang, the Pak Ou Caves contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of all different sizes. In addition to the striking Buddha statues, the view from the cave provides sweeping scenes of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers.

After visiting the caves, return downstream to Luang Prabang. There is an optional visit on the way back to Ban Xang Hay, a village that specializes in making rice wine.

Once back in Luang Prabang, enjoy a selection of local favourites at one of the best Lao restaurants in town, Tamarind. (Note: closed on Sundays)

Embark on an afternoon, guided city tour of Luang Prabang. Start the exploration at the former Royal Palace, now housing the country’s National Museum. The walk continues to Wat Mai, a temple renowned for its golden bas-relief. Next, take a walk to Wat Sensoukarahm, followed by the city’s most photographed temple, Wat Xieng Thong.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Evening performance at the Royal Ballet Theater

Spend an evening at the Royal Ballet. Performances feature scenes from the Lao Ramayana, folk and tribal dances, all working to preserve this important aspect of Lao cultural heritage. The show starts at 18:00 and is held on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Please note that the Royal Ballet Theater is normally closed from June to September.

Overnight in Luang Prabang

After breakfast, enjoy the morning at leisure until transport (provided) to the airport for the departing flight.

If time permits, visit a weaving village (Xang Khong) where traditional Lao textiles are woven and where mulberry paper is made (en route to the airport.)
