After breakfast, transfer to the nearby pier to board a private longtail boat for a scenic 2 hour ride up the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves.
Located upstream from Luang Prabang, the Pak Ou Caves contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of all different sizes. In addition to the striking Buddha statues, the view from the cave provides sweeping scenes of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers.
After visiting the caves, return downstream to Luang Prabang. There is an optional visit on the way back to Ban Xang Hay, a village that specializes in making rice wine.
Once back in Luang Prabang, enjoy a selection of local favourites at one of the best Lao restaurants in town, Tamarind. (Note: closed on Sundays)
