Welcome to the Mekong Elephant Park in Pakbeng, Laos!

We'll start our half day tour by crossing the mighty Mekong on a longtail boat to reach the opposite shore, now facing the village of Pakbeng.

Begin your day with a privileged moment - an elephant encounter in the forest. Walk off along the guided trails to go meet the elephants in their natural environment.  You'll have the chance to get up close and personal with these majestic animals as you walk with them through the lush greenery, observing their movements and interactions.

After our walk, we'll watch the elephants as they enjoy their daily bath. You'll see firsthand how they cool off and clean themselves in the river. It's a truly magical experience!

Next, we'll watch the animals as they go through their daily vet routine. You'll see the care and attention that the park's staff gives to these gentle giants, ensuring that they are healthy and happy. This is an important time between the mahouts and elephants, where your host will explain the different processes of positive reinforcement training.

Finally, we'll end our tour by giving the elephants some special treats. You'll have the chance to feed them fruits and vegetables as a special reward for their hard work.

Once done, walk up to the park’s restaurant area for a local lunch in a charming traditional home  inspired area before your host takes you back to the other side of the Mekong and to your hotel.

The MEP ( Mekong Elephant Park) has just recently been certified through ACES ( Asian Captive Elephant Standards) and actively  involved in several conservation and education initiatives, including working with local communities to promote responsible elephant tourism and raising awareness about the importance of elephant conservation.

The park is currently home to 3 adult elephants and one baby, who are given the freedom to roam and interact with each other as they would in the wild. The elephants are not trained to perform tricks or carry tourists, and visitors are encouraged to observe them from a distance and respect their space.

The MEP in Pakbeng is the perfect destination for those interested in learning about and supporting the conservation of elephants in Laos!
