Itinerary

📍 Bangkok city – Ao Khung Kraben (244 km): 3.00 hr Ao Khung Kraben – Chanthaburi city (27 km): 40 min Chanthaburi city - Wat Khao Sukim (25 km): 30 min

Early depart around 07:00 from your Bangkok hotel or airport for Chanthaburi Province, located on the east coast of Thailand. Drive out of Bangkok for approx. 3 hours via a scenic, coastline route up on to the viewpoint of must stop scenic points along the way – a breathtaking panoramic photo spot! En-route visit Ao Khung Kraben Development Study Center, a mangrove project under the advice of His Majesty the King Rama 9. This area is for those who appreciate the touch of nature, like mangrove forest. Here is the plentiful nursery of sea animals which will return to nature for balancing ecology, when they grow up. 
Following this, lunch at a local restaurant. Then proceed to Wat Khao Sukim for a visit. Built in 1966, this temple today houses a large collection of religious items and valuable antiques donated by the public. Then on the way back to Chanthaburi town, make a stop at Sadet Yat Fruit Garden (Note: This orchard is open from May to July only. Admission is at own expenses). 

Overnight in Chanthaburi.

After breakfast, check out at around 08:00 and drive to visit the famous Catholic Church in Chanthaburi. Built in 1909, it is in Gothic architectural style. The original tall roof was taken down during World War II to make it less conspicuous as a possible target. (Note: The inside cathedral is closed every Sunday morning.) Then continue to Chanthaboon Riverside Community, an old community lined up with old style wooden houses which are rich in story and local experiences that you can enjoy learning about. After a visit to the community, drive to Nong Bua Market, a local market for the local experience that shouldn’t be missed. Here, get a chance to sample local pastry (Please note: Local Pastry Workshop will close on weekends) and enjoy local lunch at a local noodle house. After lunch, embark on a short longtail boat ride, passing the mangrove and fisherman village, to a local oyster farm where you will see a local demonstrating how to catch an oyster. 
Proceed next to Trat with an en-route visit to Ban Ngop Chiao or Ban Nam Chiao, a local community famous for producing a native hat to ward off the sun. The hat is woven with local palm leaves from plants grown in the mangrove area. It is still widely used today as it is light and comfortable. The village is also a good place to purchase local marine produce, including dried shrimps, shrimp paste and fish sauce. Take a longtail boat ride passing the local village of Ban Nam Chiao and Mangrove Forest. After about an hour and a half boat ride, return to the pier where you will be transferred to the hotel in Trat. 

Overnight in Trat.
