With a rich history and exotic cultures nestled amongst jungle-clad hills, the Thai province Kanchanaburi has a wide range of offerings for travelers. This four-day adventure travels west from Bangkok, via the famous floating markets, to arrive at the notorious 'Bridge on the River Kwai'. A journey along the 'Death Railway' then takes guests further west towards the bustling border town of Sangkhlaburi, where large lakes, golden temples and many ethnic groups await.

Itinerary

📍 Bangkok City – Samut Songkhram (100 km): 60 min Samut Songkhram – Kanchanaburi (109 km): 1.30hr

Early this morning, drive south from Bangkok to the garden province of Samut Songkhram Province, and head towards the famous railway market at Maeklong District, where you will get a glimpse into Thai local lifestyle. *Start the walk through the local market, located by the railway track and witness the dexterity and speed of the vendors as they quickly pack their stalls right before 09:45 am when the train approaches; hence, brining shopping to a brief halt. Then we will visit Damnoen Saduak Floating market and take a long-tail boat ride through the canals and see how Thai people live alongside the labyrinth of canals in this area.

Then drive further to Kanchanaburi. Upon arrival, make a brief stop at the famous Bridge on the River Kwai, built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II. Visit the Art Gallery & War Museum and lunch at a local restaurant. Continue to the historical Pak Phraek street lined up with the charming houses. Stop for coffee at a local café in the area. Return to the hotel.

📍 Kanchanaburi - Sangkhlaburi (218 km): 3 hr

After early breakfast at the hotel, depart for a visit to the War Cemetery and Thai Burma Railway Museum. Then drive to River Kwai Bridge Train Station for a short train ride along the infamous ‘Death Railway’, passing over the wooden viaducts along the River Kwai, overlooking the breathtaking view of Kwai gorge. (Train departs at 10:50 and arrives at 11:57).

Lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, drive to Sangkhlaburi, a remote small town of Kanchanaburi. Visit the Mon village, the local market and get to the Mon wooden bridge for beautiful sunset of the day. End your day at a lovely cafe, Graph Cafe, for evening coffee.

📍 Sangkhlaburi - Hin Tok River Camp@Hell Fire Pass (136 km): 2.30 hr

Rise early in the morning for alms giving to monks at the Mon Village. Return to the resort for breakfast. After breakfast, drive to visit Wat Wang Wiwekaram, the most important and most revered Buddhist temple in Sangkhlaburi District, where Thai and Mon people live together peacefully. The temple was built to replace the previous temple which is now underwater. Then take a boat trip on Songkaria Lake to visit the Sunken Temple, one of the must-see “Unseen Thailand” attractions. The temple can be visited inside when the water level is low during the dry season. But during the rainy season, you can only see the upper part, one to two metres, of the temple.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, transfer back to the historic Kanchanaburi and straight towards the safari-style tented camp on Hintok Mountain. With sweeping views of the beautiful landscape and the River Kwai, you will feel relaxed in this tranquil environment.

📍 Hin Tok River Camp@Hell Fire Pass – Bangkok city (241 km): 3.30 hr

Breakfast at the hotel and leave the resort to go on a short walk on the hellfire pass walking trail to see the most interesting part where the soldiers were forced to remove the rock using no more than picks, hammers and their bare hands, and continue to Hellfire Pass Museum. Depart for Sai Yok Yai Waterfall, which is famous for its idyllic beauty, once visited by King Rama V. The falls flows from cliffs into the Kwai Noi River. Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the waterfall view.

Depart from Kanchanaburi and drive back to Bangkok hotel.
