Itinerary

📍 Luang Prabang Airport – Luang Prabang (4 km): 15 min

Welcome to Luang Prabang, the spiritual capital of Laos! 

Upon landing at Luang Prabang Airport, an EXO Travel representative will be present to do the VIP Visa Fast Track for all participants. 
Note: Please prepare passport, 1 ID photo and the cost of visa (depending on nationality) ready in cash.

Upon arrival to Luang Prabang, the guide and driver will be waiting to provide transport to the hotel for check in. After checking in, enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure.

In order to receive the true glamping experience, it is advised to opt for the uniquely designed Hilltop Tent.

The design of the Hilltop Tents features colours, textiles and patterns utilised by the area's indigenous hill tribes that still inhabit the wild mountains around us, bringing guests closer to understanding our unique location. The interior of the tent features a king-size bed and oversized daybed, encouraging guests to best enjoy the surrounding nature. As well as a refreshing rain shower, the classic style bathtubs and the oversized balcony with its comfortable sofa invites guests to enjoy luxury at its best. 

This afternoon, guests will be picked up at the hotel and transferred to the pier to board the luxurious iMekong cruiser.

The boat will leave at 4:00pm, cruising gently down the mighty Mekong River. Travelling at a leisurely pace, guests will have plenty of time to appreciate the dramatic scenery, peaceful ambience and simple rural lives of villages along the river.

The cruise will slide back a section of its roof so guests can have panoramic views of the oranges, reds, pinks, and purples of the changing sky as the sun sinks behind the mountains.

While cruising, guests will be served appetizers of traditional Lao snacks, water, Beer Lao and house wine.  Onboard music is also available or just contemplate the peace and calm.

Dinner at leisure. 

Overnight in Luang Prabang

Inclusions:

Kick off the day today with a Private Yoga Course at the hotel with Mrs Khoun at 7am.

Meet Ms Khoun, a local yoga teacher for a private Yoga session at the hotel. She will be able to adapt to any level and technique preferred. 
 
Following a bountiful breakfast (possibility to be taken on the oversized balcony overlooking the surrounding landscape), explore Luang Prabang with a knowledgeable local guide by mountain bike. 

The bikes will be sent to the hotel for a fitting.  Visit the highlights of this UNESCO World Heritage site and also learn about Laos’ rich, colourful culture. 

Kick off the Luang Prabang half day tour at the former Royal Palace, a centrally-located building that now serves as the National Museum. Venture through the corridors and see intriguing displays of historical relics and informative exhibits. 

Then take a short walk to neighbouring Wat Mai, a Buddhist temple whose gold-covered bas relief is an incredible piece of craftsmanship. While here, learn about Buddhism and how its influence pervades the local culture. 

Continue through the streets of downtown Luang Prabang to Wat Sensoukarahm, a temple noted for its dazzling gold façade. The final visit is Wat Xieng Thong, one of the oldest and most revered temples in the country. The temple is situated on the tip of the city’s peninsula and is filled with ornate carvings and mosaics that have withstood the test of time. Wrap up the Luang Prabang half day tour with a better understanding of this charming, northern Laos city. 

Lunch at Le Elephant Restaurant, a Friends International initiative for marginalised kids.

This afternoon, meet a member of the TAEC ( Traditional Arts and ethnology Center )to learn about Lao Ethnic diversity, textiles and shaman rituals- 1.5 hours ( including museum visit)
Dr. Marie-Pierre Lissoir is an ethnomusicologist who dedicated her PhD to the musical traditions of the Tai Dam ethnic group of Houaphan Province, in northeastern Laos.  Dr. Lissoir will give guests a fascinating insight into the spirit healing traditions of this ethnic group, including video, photos, and personal stories from her research.

Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. 

This evening, enjoy dinner at Manda de Laos, one of the best tables of Laos. Manda de Laos is enveloped by the historic beauty of three lotus ponds, registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, creating an immersive tropical ambiance. The dining area overlooks a magical display of lotus blossoms and floating lilies, while the changing colours of the sky through to dusk, allows guests to dine in candlelit serenity under the stars. If travelling as a couple, it is highly recommended to ask for the Lovers’ table.

Overnight in Luang Prabang

Begin the Luang Prabang elephant experience with a 08:30 pick up from the hotel. Transport will be provided out of town to the nearby village of Xieng Lom. Upon arrival, enjoy either coffee or tea while the guide explains the day’s itinerary and provides an in-depth introduction to elephant behaviour and the best means of interacting with them. 

After the morning’s introduction, continue with a short ride across the Nam Khan River where the elephants await. The guide and mahouts will provide an introduction to the gentle giants, followed by a chance to feed them some healthy snacks. 

Elephants and mahouts will interact and continue their on-going bonding in the river, while guests watch them and enjoy the majestic elephants during bathtime.

Continue the experience with the trekking portion of the trip. After crossing through a stretch of beautiful Lao gardens, head into the jungle-covered Huay Nok stream. Walking alongside the elephants, crisscross through the cool waters developing a profound sense of understanding, respect and care for these amazing animals. After the trek completes, start the walk back and bid farewell to the elephants. 

Before heading back, enjoy a freshly prepared local Lao meal, made from organically grown local produce. Relax, kick back and soak in the day’s experiences on the property’s veranda overlooking the river and surrounding misty mountains. After lunch, continue to the Chateau Orientale to start a private e-biking ride through the countryside.

Note: MandaLao does not allow customers to bathe the Elephants directly.  This is to fall in line with WAP-World Animal Protection Guidelines whom we are working closely with.  The elephants are free to choose if they enter the river or not and the only people that will wash the elephants would be their mahout.

Today is a join-in tour, with a local experienced guide provided by Chateau Orientale.  Meet the guide and driver for a 20 min drive out to the countryside, along the Nam Khan river, arriving at the tropical Garden of Chateau Orientale.

Choose and get a briefing on a selected E-Mountain bike before riding out on a beautiful off-road loop with several rivers crossing. Along the way, visit a traditional Khmu Village (Ban Hue Tad) and visit of the Tad Kuang Son waterfalls,

Cycle back to the starting point, crossing teak and vegetables plantations before transferring back to the hotel. 

This evening, enjoy dinner at leisure at the hotel in  one of the many restaurants in Luang Prabang.

Overnight in Luang Prabang

After breakfast, head on a scenic 40-minute drive to Long Lao Village for the start of a nice trekking tour. Before trekking, explore the life and culture of this village where Khamu and Hmong people live harmoniously together.

The Kuang Si trekking trail leads to the Lao hinterland, passing fields and vegetable gardens before reaching the forested mountains which reveal wild scenery and some steep climbs. After a stretch of forest hiking, stop to explore an interesting cave along the way that is said to have been used as a bomb shelter during the Indochina War. 

Follow a path through the jungle to visit the incredibly clear waters of Kuang Si Waterfall, one of the most famous waterfalls in Southeast Asia. Take some time to swim and relax in the beautiful turquoise waters and don’t forget to take some photos! (Note: please dress modestly) 

Enjoy a delicious meal at Carpe Diem, along the falls with a private natural pool to cool off after the hike.

Before leaving the area, visit the Asian Black Bear Rescue Centre run by Free The Bears Fund Inc. Just next to the falls, there are currently 23 Asiatic black bears living in the sanctuary which have been saved from hunters. The main threat to these bears is poaching due to the belief that their parts are valuable in Chinese medicine. Read about their habits and observe their playful nature whilst learning about the challenges they are facing. 

Transfer back to the hotel (approximately 45 minutes). 

Once back to town, enjoy a Hmong Herbal Cleanse at one of the most celebrated Spa in Asia- The Senses at Rosewood- for a unique Hmong Herbal Cleanse. A Hmong Shaman will meet to align the spirits and cleanse the body and soul of negative and tiring energies.  This session is based on the Shaman’s availability and  takes an hour but can be extended with other treatments if desired.

This evening, our Farewell Dinner will be at Paste, the first and only restaurant in Laos opened by a Michelin star chef. This story is about historical Lao food, with the layered flavour and texture for which Paste has been acclaimed. In keeping with Paste’s award winning formula, Paste Lao Food is built on the recipes of the great Phia Sing, adhering 80% to his authentic historical Lao recipes, while employing 20% creativity to layer and shape the dishes into modern masterpieces.

This morning, take some time to enjoy the town for some last-minute shopping while we handle the VIP Airport Check In. Please provide your passport and check in luggage to our representative at reception 3 hours prior to flight departure. The representative will be doing the airport check in and Immigration service in advance so guests get to enjoy the stay in Laos without having to rush or bother with paperwork.

Leave the hotel just 1 hour prior to departure time. 

The guide and private car will be waiting to transfer guests from the hotel to the airport for the departing flight.
