Explore villages and markets rarely frequented by outsiders to discover a way of life vastly different from elsewhere in Malaysia. Then, head into the jungle to experience the raw natural beauty and biological splendour of Kalimantan en route to a traditional Dayak village.

Itinerary

📍 Banjarmasin Syamsudin Noor Airport – Banjarmasin Hotel (26 km): approximately 50 minutes

Upon arrival at Syamsyudin Noor Airport, be greeted by the guide and driver and transfer to the hotel in Banjarmasin for check-in.

Banjarmasin is the provincial capital of south Kalimantan and is surrounded by rivers where locals gather to trade fresh produce and other goods. This afternoon is free to relax and explore the town on independently. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.

📍 Banjarmasin hotel – Martapura (42 km): approximately 1 hour 10 minutes Martapura – Loksado (129 km): approximately 4 hours

After breakfast in the morning, set off for Loksado, a small town about 5-hours from Banjarmasin.

Along the way, after approximately 2 hours of driving, stop in Martapura in the Banjar Regency. The area is popular for its diamond industry as well as for being a santri city, a place where locals practice an orthodox version of Islam. Explore the town and learn more about Banjar people and the process of mining and polishing diamonds.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in town before continuing on to Loksado.  Stop at the local hot springs where there is a chance to swim.

Check into the hotel, a charming lodge in the middle of the jungle, and relax before dinner is served.

📍 Loksado – Banjarmasin Hotel (167 km): approximately 5 hours

Today, explore the beautiful hills, local villages and cascading rivers around Loksado.

Start with a short trek through bamboo forests and over the hills to a longhouse of the dayak people. While walking around the villages, discover the local lifestyles of the people and explore the cinnamon plantations and waterfalls of the area.

Then head to the banks of the Amandit River for an exhilarating bamboo rafting journey. This 3-4 hour journey heads from Loksado to Muara Hatif or from Muara Hatif to Mawangi, depending on the water level. Be sure to wear a bathing suit or clothes that can get wet, as there is a high likelihood of being splashed! There will be a local boatman to help guide the raft with a long steering pole and, along the way, the raft will encounter a small sets of rapids as well as quiet spots for swimming.

Upon reaching the take-out point, proceed by car to Banjarmasin and check in to the hotel.

In the evening, dinner will be provided at a local restaurant.

📍 Banjarmasin Hotel – Banjarmasin Syamsudin Noor Airport (26 km): approximately 50 minutes

Awake early and set out with the guide to the morning floating market.  On the Barito River, this floating market is a brilliant mix of colours and sights as the Banjar people paddle their canoes around to sell and buy merchandise.

Return to the hotel for breakfast and spend the morning at leisure before checking out. Then transfer to the airport for the onward flight.
