The war in Vietnam is still fresh in many people’s minds. Reminders of it can be seen throughout the country, one of which is the Cu Chi Tunnels. Located just an hour from Ho Chi Minh City, the immense underground network was used by the Vietcong as hiding spots, supply routes, hospitals, living quarters as well as food and weapons caches. Living conditions were atrocious, to say the least. Air, food and water are scarce, soldiers were at risk from poisonous insects and disease ran rampant. Visiting the underground network during your Vietnam tour will give you great insight into the daily lives and hardships of the soldiers who lived and worked in the dark, short and narrow tunnels.peoples, lands and technology. Where was the first atomic bomb dropped? If you say Hiroshima, then you are correct. This fact will forever be linked with the industrial Japanese city. Fortunately, she

has recovered to become a modern, cosmopolitan metropolis with excellent cuisine and a multitude of cultural attractions. One of the main stops here is to visit

Peace Memorial Park, a memorial filled with shrines dedicated to the survivors of the atomic blast on August 6th 1945. Don’t just limit yourself to the city during your war travel though. We highly recommend a Japan kayaking adventure around Miyajima, a nearby island and home to the famous Floating Torii Gate.

Thailand also has her share of World War II remnants. The Death Railway, the infamous bridge linking Myanmar and Kanchanaburi in Thailand (made famous by the book and film featuring the railway) is a top attraction approximately 240 kilometers from Bangkok. Other World War II related visits include the Hellfire Pass Museum and JEATH Museum. But the area also offers more. Nature lovers can enjoy a Thailand adventure with an elephant back ride amongst the jungle, a kayak or canoe excursion on the River Kwai itself or embark on light treks.

    Often bypassed by travellers rushing either to the mountains of the north or the beaches of the south, the central and northeastern reached of Thailand have plenty of attributes to woo visitors.  Central Thailand is the country's cultural heartland. Fed by the Chao Phraya River, the fertile plain north of Bangkok births much of the nation's rice crop while towns such as Ayutthaya and Sukhothai were formerly capitals of once-mighty Thai kingdoms. Steeped in colourful history, the majestic ruins at both towns reward exploration by bike or by foot. To the northwest of Bangkok, mountain ranges climb towards the Myanmar border, the lush peaks hiding spectacular foaming waterfalls.     With May on the horizon, we are already looking ahead to the next busy period of spring: Golden Week. During this holiday, domestic tourism reaches its peak, pushing the already limited availability of drivers, accommodations, and activities.During Golden Week, from April 29 to May 6, several national public holidays are observed. Some museums and sightseeing spots offer extended opening hours, while other smaller locations may be closed for the holiday period. Train stations and airports get extremely crowded, so early arrival is suggested for clients travelling at this time. Please be aware that the EXO Japan office will be closed on Monday April 29 for Showa Day and from May 1-6 for the rest of the Golden Week period. Some staff members will remain working, but please expect extended reply times.     Plum blossoms are blooming, and sakura season is just around the corner! Japan is seeing a huge number of tourists entering the country, and ended 2023 with over 25,000,000 arrivals.     A magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred on January 1st in the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture along the Sea of Japan coast. This caused heavy damage in the area and the situation in Noto is not expected to recover soon, with optimistic estimations saying late spring. EXO Foundation, the charity organization of EXO travel, is gathering information on how we can best support the area in the most helpful and sustainable way. Kanazawa is located very close to the Noto Peninsula and was affected as well with some minor damage and power outages. Thankfully, the situation in Kanazawa is now back to normal with all the main tourist attractions and facilities re-opened.     In the aftermath of the recent earthquake, EXO Japan has been closely monitoring the situation on the ground in Japan. The quake, which struck the Ishikawa Prefecture on 1 January, resulted in widespread damage in and around the region.We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation, but also grateful to see recovery efforts underway and the outpouring of support from around the world.     With the New Year approaching, EXO’s Japan Team has just held our traditional Bonenkai (end of the year party) at Kimpton Hotel in Shinjuku. Since most of our staff work from home on a rotating basis, and some live in different parts of the country, it was a great opportunity to see everyone in person and meet the many new faces of our growing team. Speaking of growing, our Tokyo headquarters has recently expanded with the acquisition of an additional floor. Visitors can now meet with EXO staff in a new, upscale environment that includes attractive meeting spaces and lounges.  Stop by if you’re in Tokyo! Yet even as we grow, the extremely high demand in Japan does too, and we recently announced a stop-sell for the spring 2024 season.
