Watch out for Laos! Seriously making a case as the place to go in Southeast Asia, Laos presents visitors with her own set of unique selling points. If you are a laid back fellow, then there is no better place in the world to be than in Laos. If you like the chill-out ambiance rivers naturally exude, then you are in the right country. Unique glittering temples, check. Beautiful waterfalls, it’s here. Lush green jungles, yep. And the main thing that people love about Laos is; the country is still not on many people’s tourist trail. Experience the essentials with our Highlights of Laos tour.

Your first stop; the capital Vientiane. You are probably thinking, ‘this is not a capital city, is it?’ You are not the only one! Yes, the city feels like a small countryside town instead of a, well, city. So yes, feel the laid back and chilled out ambiance right when you step out of the plane!  Visit the country’s version of the Arc de Triomphe (called Patuxai) as well as the country’s national symbol Pha That Luang. Other sites include Lao’s oldest and atmospheric temple Wat Sisaket, the former home of the Emerald Buddha Wat Phra Keo and at Wat Simuang, the most popular and venerated temple in Vientiane

If you love coffee, then Lao coffee will certainly please your taste buds! Laos has one of the most famous coffees in the world that is grown in the Boloven Plateau in Southern Laos. Enjoy a tour with an experienced roaster who will teach you about the growing, roasting and blending process. And enjoy a sip.

Now off to Luang Prabang, another chilled out town and a UNESCO World Heritage City. It is not difficult to see why the town is classified as such. Temples galore, visit beautiful and historic ones such as the 1560 built Wat Xieng Thong, the golden bas reliefs of Wat Mai and Wat Sensoukarahm, which features a beautiful dazzling golden façade, just to name a few. Lao history, culture and hilltribe peoples will be revealed to you with visits to several museums as well.

Visit one of Laos’ famous natural sites, Kuang Si Falls. These waterfalls cascade down a multilevel limestone formation creating a series of turquoise blue pools perfect for swimming on a hot day (meaning just about every day). Everybody in the pool! After that, head back to town and learn the secrets of Lao cuisine with a cooking class. Impress your friends back home with this special skill.

Now we will head out of Luang Prabang by boat to several sites. First off is Pak Ou Caves. Thousands upon thousands of Buddha statues in different shapes and sizes await your arrival and seem to eye your every movement once you are there. A flashlight might come in handy here, as with a lot of caves, it can get dark.

Continue upriver for another hour to reach the Kamu Lodge, featuring 20 private canvas tents, each one of which protected from the elements by a thatch roof. Bamboo furniture blends seamlessly with the elements, further adding the jungle feel. This is also where you will engage in a whole host of outdoor activities with the locals. A great way to engage in Lao activities with Lao people!
