Heritage and Wildlife of Kuching (4 Days / 3 Nights)

It is easy to lose yourself in the mysterious beauty of Borneo’s jungles. In his classic travel book Stranger in the Forest: On Foot Across Borneo, author Eric Hansen recounts a seven-month, 4000kilometer long journey through the heart of Asia’s largest island.

So immersed was Hansen in the experience that when he eventually emerged near the east coast in Kalimantan, Indonesia, the contact with civilisation gave him such a culture shock that he turned around for another crossing of the island. While this bite-sized taste of the tropical bounty on offer in the Malaysian state of Sarawak is less epic in scale than Hansen’s expedition, it provides a tantalising microcosm of Borneo’s varying attributes.

Before venturing into the wild, guests can sample the myriad charms of Kuching, Sarawak’s cosmopolitan capital. From the city, it is a short hop to Bako National Park where pristine rainforest, abundant wildlife, jungle streams, secluded beaches and an extensive network of trekking trails await.
