Mix Bali & Art and you get the Bali Arts Festival; Springing to Life from June 11th – July 9th 2011

What happens when you combine exotic arts with an exotic land? How about a truly memorable experience? Imagine, you’re in Bali basking in the sea, sand and sun on one of its renowned beaches.

And just a short transfer away is a sea of life, vigor and color. In case you are wondering, this is the Bali Arts Festival, and it will be bursting into action from June 11th – July 9th 2011.

Sure it is nice to tour around the island and discover its many colorful traditions, foods temples and even art galleries. But time may be of the essence for some. This is where the festival can help. The event will bring together a number of arts and performances ranging from:

Traditional village dances
Classical palace dances
Contemporary modern dances
Traditional music performances
Fashion shows
Salivating food
Balinese offerings contests
Art exhibitions
And more

But this isn’t just any ordinary art event. The performances begin at the villages, where they are chosen at the regency level and vie with each other to perform at this event. Not only will you see authentic performances, you will also see the best of the best.

So, what is the history behind the event? As tourism started to boom in the 1960’s the people decided that visitors should experience the island’s culture and heritage as well. As the Balinese put it: “Tourism should be for Bali instead of Bali for tourism.” Never has a statement been truer about travel in the island.

In order to promote this, contests were being held in the village level, which excited the younger generations who felt their art and culture was being lost amidst all the modernization. So, along with this enthusiasm and pride of their heritage, the Bali Arts Festival was born.

    Often bypassed by travellers rushing either to the mountains of the north or the beaches of the south, the central and northeastern reached of Thailand have plenty of attributes to woo visitors.  Central Thailand is the country's cultural heartland. Fed by the Chao Phraya River, the fertile plain north of Bangkok births much of the nation's rice crop while towns such as Ayutthaya and Sukhothai were formerly capitals of once-mighty Thai kingdoms.     The Indonesian government recently announced plans for a new tourism fee. Effective 14 February 2024 onwards, all international visitors to Bali will be required to pay 150,000 IDR (approximately 10 USD) on arrival.This one-time payment is required prior to entry, whether by land, sea, or air.  Guests can pre-pay by card, bank transfer or with virtual accounts via the official website (https://lovebali.baliprov.go.id/).  Alternatively, the levy may be paid on the spot by credit card. A digital receipt will be issued post-payment and must be presented at various checkpoints throughout the stay. This receipt remains valid for the entire duration of the visit to Indonesia, even if travellers exit and re-enter Bali.Please note that this fee is independent of the Indonesia Visa fees.     Since the start of December, there have been a series of significant seismic events in Indonesia. To date, EXO’s tours have not been affected but our team in Indonesia is monitoring the recent eruptions and ongoing developments, with our top priority being the safety and well-being of travellers. Despite these volcanic activities, it's worth noting that Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta Airport continues to operate as usual. There have been no disruptions to air travel, and the airport remains fully operational. Here is the most current and comprehensive information about the Indonesian volcano activity: Mount Marapi, West Sumatra: Ongoing Eruptions Mount Marapi, located in West Sumatra, erupted on 3 December around 15.00. Unfortunately more than 20 climbers are missing and  a further 11 have been confirmed dead. As of 5 December, the Marapi volcano continues its eruption phase. This volcanic activity has been monitored closely by local authorities, though no significant changes have been reported. The ash from the volcano has spread across the Agam district in West Sumatra, but North Sumatra is still safe to travel and has not been affected. *Please note: despite the similar names, this is different Mt Merapi in Yogyakarta, Java.
