All Aboard the Yangon Circular Train; Giving you Unparalleled Experiences of Burma’s Capital

Welcome to Yangon. Myanmar’s largest city as well as the country’s cultural and spiritual capital.

Welcome to Yangon. Myanmar’s largest city as well as the country’s cultural and spiritual capital. This is the starting point to your Burmese journey, a melting pot of traditional values mixed in with pockets of European charm. And what better way to explore this charming old city than by the Yangon Circular Train, looping around the city as well as through satellite towns and suburban area? You’re in for a ride!

The 46 kilometer system takes about three hours to loop around, stopping at a total of 39 stations along the way. So, doing a little math, the train travels at around 15.3 kilometers an hour (including the stops). So, in other words, the train is slow. But that’s a good thing because you’ll have time to truly take in the environment. Smells of betel nuts, people carrying food and groceries and Burmese snacks and treats are all part of the experience. You’ll also be in the company of your average Burmese during the day and also get to see villages and the overall colorful atmosphere of Burmese rural life.

Do not expect luxury comforts, air-conditioning, first class service, ultra soft and cushioned chairs with tons of leg space here. This is a local train, and how the Burmese travel on a daily basis. There’s no better way to be a part of the people’s daily lives than actually experiencing what they do daily. We highly recommend the window seat.  Just stick you r head out and be a part of the rural environment. If you are looking to vary your stay in the big city, away from the main sites such as Shwedagon Pagoda, then the Yangon Circular Train is the experience for you!

Myanmar is certainly an exotic country. Where to go? What to do? No worries, we got you covered with our Myanmar tours page.
