Spotlight on Essaouira: A wonderful seaside gem
This month, the focus turns to Essaouira, an easy-going Atlantic coast escape that pairs naturally with Marrakech, adding a slower rhythm before or after the city.
Need a quick steer on where Essaouira fits, how long to allow and how to route it? Our Selling Guide to Essaouira is a great resource.
For clients who picture Morocco as souks, riads and desert landscapes, Essaouira helps the itinerary breathe. It’s compact and walkable, with a white-and-blue medina, sea views from the ramparts, a working fishing port and a creative artisan scene. The ever-present breeze keeps the temperature pleasant and makes it a natural fit for kitesurfing and wind sports, while food ranges from simple harbour-side grills to local favourites like warming snail soup on cooler evenings.
Below are a few product ideas that show what’s possible in and around Essaouira, from a short stay that balances guided touch points with unhurried free time, to a half-day that brings the town’s creative identity to life.

Wrapping up the first year of EXO Morocco
As this was the opening year of EXO Morocco, we carried out several RECCE trips. All of them were wonderful and allowed us to discover new places and rediscover others, but the one we enjoyed the most was the journey through the lesser-known Anti-Atlas region all the way to the Atlantic coast.
We experienced breathtaking and ever-changing landscapes, from lush green mountains to arid ranges in shades of red, gold and terracotta. We visited charming small towns like Taroudant, just two hours from Agadir; explored ancient kasbahs that looked straight out of Game of Thrones; walked under dramatic coastal rock arches; found giant dunes right by the ocean; and wandered through historic seaside towns such as Essaouira and Safi. We even tasted some of the best oysters in the country in Oualidia.
This was also our very first trip as a team, which allowed us to get to know each other better and see how naturally our strengths complemented one another. Definitely a trip to remember.
