Leading the Way: EXO’s specialised tour leader training

Comprehensive training for guides leading leisure and adventure groups

Over the past weeks, EXO has rolled out a customised tour leader training programme to guides across our portfolio of destinations.

This specialised training is designed for guides leading multi-day group tours—whether adventure or leisure—equipping them with essential skills such as leadership, managing group dynamics and problem-solving.

Led by EXO Director of Adventure, Matt Blench, the training sessions are part of  a comprehensive two- or three-day course, covering key topics like responsible leadership and effective group communication.

The specialised training aims to elevate EXO guides to deliver exceptional group tours.

Matt explains, ‘By equipping guides with the necessary tools, support and training, we strive to ensure every tour is a memorable and a high-quality experience’.

The training sessions began in May in Laos followed by courses in Cambodia, Japan and Vietnam. Other EXO destinations are scheduled for later this year and early 2025.

‘The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with guides eager to apply their new skills in the field’

The training is designed to cater to guides of varying experience levels, providing both a refresher course for experienced leaders and valuable guidance for newcomers. Through shared knowledge and experiences, guides can learn from each other and continuously improve their skills.

Beyond improving customer satisfaction, the training sessions create an opportunity for guides to learn more about EXO and see, first hand, our commitment to training and development. By investing in our guides, we not only help them to become strong, better leaders but we also are able to attract more top talent in the guide community.

‘The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with guides eager to apply their new skills in the field’, Matt explained.

Ultimately, this training will strengthen EXO’s position as a leading provider of exceptional group tours.

‘It was really instructive and I made some discoveries which will have a big impact on my career.’
