Hoang Su Phi is a mountainous district located on the western border of Ha Giang province. The area is home of many ethnic groups of which the majority is the Nung; the others are Dao, Tay, Hmong, Kinh, La Chi, Co Lao... The main attraction in Hoang Su Phi has to be the stunning landscape. Just enjoy those amazing mountains, adorned with steep rice terraces almost everywhere.
With this trip, you will have opportunities to experience trekking in beautiful landscapes, meeting different hill tribes, staying in ethnic minority’s homestay and be dazzled upon the majestic beauty of the place.

Itinerary

Up on arrival in Noi Bai international airport (Hanoi) we will be meet our local guide and transferred to our hotel nestled in the vibrant old quarter of Hanoi.

Hanoi's Old Quarter, a captivating maze of narrow streets and bustling markets, is a vibrant testament to the city's rich history and culture. Dating back over a thousand years, its labyrinthine alleys are lined with colonial architecture, traditional shop houses, and ancient temples. The air is alive with the aroma of sizzling street food, offering a sensory journey through Vietnam's culinary delights.

📍 Hanoi to Hoang Su Phi (282 km): 5,5hrs Trekking distance: 4,4 km or about 1,5 hours

This early am we depart Hanoi for a relaxing long scenic drive to Ha Giang Province and the district of Hoang Su Phi. As we leave the Red River Delta scenery behind we can quietly observe how the landscape changes while arriving in the mountains of northern Vietnam.  We plan to arrive in the town of Tuyen Quang around noon where we will have a simple Vietnamese style lunch in a local restaurant. After the meal we will continue to the stunning Hoang Su Phi area which is one of the most remote areas in Vietnam offering breathtaking scenery and colorful hill tribe culture. 

Once you arrive in Hoang Su Phi, it's time to stretch your legs! Let's kick off with a trek through the lush forest to Nam Hong village, where you'll be greeted by beautiful rice terrace views along the way. This adventure is sure to ignite the explorer in you.

Optional activities with supplement is available there such as Red Dao herbal Bath, join the Dao traditional game: Wrestling with pestle, Fire dancing Ritual, “Cap Sac” Ritual…).

Dinner and overnight in Nam Hong village of the Red Dzao people

After breakfast, we'll journey through the picturesque rice terraces of Nam Khoa village, home to the Dzao and Nung ethnic groups. Prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning views as you walk, gaining insight into the daily lives of the locals and meeting the Red Dzao, Long Tunics Dao, and Nung people.

Later, in Nam Ai, you'll discover an ancient tea plant, over a century old, famous for its white-haired buds that yield Vietnam's renowned Shan tea. Enjoy lunch with a local ethnic family before spending the night at a homestay with a Nung family.

Today, we'll discover Nam Son commune, home to a remarkable stunning terraced fields carved into its steep terrain. Prepare to be amazed by their breathtaking beauty.


Along the way, observe the daily lives and hard work of the Dzao, Nung, and Flower Hmong people, gaining a fascinating insight that will inspire deep respect for their rich culture. An overnight homestay with a Nung or Long Tunic Dzao ethnic minority family will provide an immersive end to your day.

After our goodbyes to our host in Nam Ai village, we will continue our trek to Ho Thau village. Along the quiet trails, you will pass through bamboo forests, waterfalls, and cascading terraced rice fields.


As we travel, you'll capture more beautiful mountain views of rice terraces and observe local Dzao, Nung, and Flower H'Mong ethnic people tending their fields. Their colorful traditional clothing makes them easy to identify. We'll have lunch with a local family mid-journey, allowing for deeper and more interesting interactions.


After we have eaten and rested we will continue our trek through the small trails to Ho Thau village of where mainly inhabited by Red Dzao people. We will spend the night there.

After breakfast we start to trek to Luoc village. The road to Ban Luoc, though not as marvelous as the Dong Van stone plateau, is still enough to fascinate our adventurous travelers. Here we will see the ripe rice fields like soft silk strips winding around the green mountainside and the traditional stilt houses scattering at the foothills. After arrival into the Ban Luoc commune we will then begin our trek along dirt trails to hilly & scenic Ban Luoc village - A stunning view of the rural village, their farming work & pristine rice terraces await. Trekking up mountainsides admiring more local houses on stilts, ancient tea plantation and picturesque waterfalls.


Tonight at our home stay, we will have the opportunity to take part in cooking preparation with our local host.


Relax & overnight in Luoc village

📍 Trekking distance: 3-4 km or 1 hour Transfer: 5.5 hours (BLD)

After a hearty breakfast and bidding farewell to our gracious host, you'll embark on a 2-hour trek through the captivating terraced fields to Ban Luoc. Nestled in the heart of ​​the Hoang Su Phi national scenic spot, this commune is renowned for its unparalleled beauty, boasting the most stunning terraced fields in Ha Giang. Stretching over 160 hectares, these fields weave through indigenous villages, cascade down the hillsides, and sprawl across the mountainsides, creating a breathtaking panorama. As you bid adieu to Ban Luoc, your journey continues with your driver is waiting to escort back to Hanoi.
